What is a blog? Blogging has taken the internet by storm. A Blog is a personal webpage where people can post their thoughts on whatever topics they desire. Some folks may use a blog to share their expertise on a particular topic, while others may simply share photos, and life experiences. Blogs are a public journal.

Our implementation of Blogging on FlyingGiants is somewhat of a departure from the blogging norm. Some might ask, why would we need a blog on FG when we already have a public forum? The answer is simple: Our member blogs are a supplement, not a replacement to our community forums. Consider our blog as your own personal forum. Blogs are more personal in nature nature, and are a great place to learn more about your friends on FlyingGiants.com. Being a new feature to our community, we will be constantly changing and tweaking our Blogging integration as the concept matures. General forum policies apply to member blogs.

Possible Blog Topics:
Me, My Friends, & Family, off topic and general thoughts and journal. Items posted in blogs are generally more personal in nature, and may contain topics more generally suited for "offline" conversations.

Topics more appropriate for the forums:
Modeling questions, answers, collaboration, build threads, new videos and photos, club discussions, events, and other topics which have a top level category in our forums.

PLEASE CONSIDER THIS BEFORE POSTING IN BLOGS: Blogs are a compliment to our forums - we do not want to balkanize our community forums my inappropriately posting such topics in our blogs.

Getting Started

Starting your own blog is a piece of cake! From the top navigation bar on top of any page, click on "Blog" and then "Bloggin' Home". You will now see the homepage for our member Blogs. Here you may view other's blog entries, comment on posts, and create your own blog.

Note the "Options" section to the left. There is where all of your blogging options are configured. The options within these pages are very self explanatory, and our software is a breeze to use.

To create your blog, you want to first give it a title. Click on "Blog Control Panel"

Next, click on "Blog Title and Description. The next screen will prompt you for a title, and description for your blog. Name your blog whatever you like, be creative, and show personality. This is your page.

Be sure to click around some of the other options. There are some very powerful nooks and crannies for the more seasoned blogger to take advantage of. Click on "my Blog". This will take you to your blog homepage. Once here, click on "Post to my Blog", and create an entry.

Before making an entry to your blog, consider the topic and nature of the post, and remember the purpose of your personal blog. This is your personal homepage to discuss whatever you like. Some topics are appropriate for the forums, while some are appropriate for blogs. Here are some examples:

As you can see, your personal blog homepage has your profile picture (from your MyFlyingGiants), along with all of your blog postings. All new blog entries appear on the FlyingGiants homepage, and next to your posts in our community forums for people to view.
