The FlyingGiants is a website comprised of like minded folks who enjoy having a safe place to post thoughts, share ideas and knowledge, and to document their experiences through photos, videos, and other forms of media. The FlyingGiant forums are the heart of online community. Modelers from around the world call our community home because we run things a bit different here, and maintain a “vibe” that exists nowhere else. Our vibe is formed around the theme of positivism, mutual respect for members and manufacturers, and through providing a great atmosphere for all modelers with varying interests.

Our community forums are managed by The FlyingGiants Staff. Our Staff consists of the most knowledgeable and friendliest guys in the hobby who’s interest cross all boundaries from helicopters, giant scale, glow, and electrics.  They also are the maintainers of our vibe, are tasked with the job moderating our community forums. We are always available to lend a hand should you require assistance or wish to communicate a concern. A complete list of Staff can be found here.

We realize better than anyone that the internet has created an anonymous arena where emotions sometimes trump rationality for understandable reasons to name a few. Below are some guidelines that we may refer to at times when issues pop up within discussions. These are the baseline standards of and foundational elements of our vibe. We ask that all members respect these rules, and assist in helping newer folks understand how our vibe works within our mostly self policing community.

Unfortunately, from time to time it may be necessary for our Staff to jump into threads and bring them back on course. Most of the time this is accomplished simply through discussions, however there are circumstances where we will be required to nuke posts that do not coincide with our buzz kill forum policies, and vibe. Should this occur, our Staff will respectively notify individuals of the specific reasoning behind our moderation.

While we absolutely respect all members of our community, we ask that this respect be reciprocal. We hate to even bring this up, but it’s an important topic to broach. On occasions, individuals may present themselves who purposefully and continuously disrespect our community policies, and make it a point to cross the line time and time again. Should these events arise, we have developed a policy infraction system which is time/event based, and repeat infractions will eventually lead all posts to be approved by our staff. It is our promise to always bend over backwards and respectfully deal with members who’s online personalities clash with our way of running the place, but in extremely rare circumstances we are simply left with no other alternative.

Our staff is committed to maintaining a high degree of consistency and professionalism, and remember, we’re modelers who enjoy the site as well. In the event that a member would like to bring a possible issue to our attention, please click the “lame post” icon which can be found underneath every post in the forums. This alerts our staff to check things out. If someone is out of line they will be sent a PM to inform them to cool things out. From our experience, most situations can be handled quickly and without drama.

General Community Forum Policies and Guidelines:

General Guidelines: Do not post if your pissed off! Nothing *ever* good comes of it. See something lame that gets you fired up? Walk away from it and respond when the initial shock has past. It's all black and white text without the advantage of personal interaction. Things can be easily misconstrued which often takes threads down hill. NEVER write when the blood pressure is high. If it makes you feel better, go ahead and write what you feel, just don’t push the send button! We have found this to be very therapeutic!

Be courteous and respectful to all members, and as much as it may be appropriate - resist the urge to flame. If you have an issue with an individual that has the potential to insight a riot, keep it to PM.

Vendor Bashing:  Feel free to post any thoughts you have on products, etc, as helping one another is the most powerful element of this site. The FlyingGiants, however, will not be the judge and jury for issues regarding a given company's integrity. We vehemently encourage honest opinions about products, manufacturers, etc. Without this type of information, our community is useless. What we're not into are destructive rumors, unverifiable claims, and reactive, damaging statements. Too often we see a thread like "X companies service sucks!". 90% of the time this is followed up by reversal from the author. This ties closely into rule #1.

Vendor Posting: On the same token, we request that manufacturers and their affiliates or representatives not use these forums to advertise their products. Shill tactics, thread bumping, blatant product plugging or promotion, by company owners, or associated representatives will not be tolerated. We have provided a manufacturer announcement forum specifically for these items which may be used within reason. We also have a number of advertising options which we encourage manufacturers to consider supporting the ongoing efforts of FlyingGiants.

Product wars. We simply HATE these things! To avoid this issue, keep the thread on topic and don’t bring in aggravating comparisons. Product banter is bad-ass as long as it's friendly - calling someone an idiot because they dumped their hard earned cheddar on a given product is lame. This typically only comes up in two areas - radios and motors. Proceed with caution. By the way, Chevy's rock!

Spelling and grammar: Our forum software is the best out there. We have spell checkers that will alert you of possible mistakes in grammar. While we don't demand that you use this functionality, it is important to know that the impersonal nature of poorly written text can easily discredit all of the great knowledge in your head from the readers perspective. Push the button before posting.

SwapShop: There is only one rule here - Don't *even* think about ripping off any of our members. Describe your product accurately including any shortfalls (hangar rash, blemishes, prior crashes, etc). The SwapShop is a “buyer and seller beware” system, and GiantRC cannot be held responsible for fraudulent transactions however we will go out of our way to assist any members in any way that we can who encounter problems. Please be sure to review our SwapShop safety page.

Photos and videos: Upload everything you got! Just make sure it's pg-13 at minimum and adheres to the vibe of FlyingGiants.

"Other" Websites: We realize that there are other community websites on the internet, and we are ecstatic that you have chosen FlyingGiants to call your home! We've busted our hineys to bring you the best content in modeling, and as a result, our staff and friends have built a modeling community like no other!

As a rule of etiquette, we ask admins, or known affiliates of competing websites to not use our community forums as a launch pad for their promotions. This practice really chaps us, and these types of posts will be promptly removed. Sites that harvest email addresses, charge for similar services, or maintain forums fall into this category.

Avatars and profile images: Though funny and personal style is cool, we need to keep our avatars PG-13. “chick pics” always create problems, please keep this in mind

Chat room: Within our chat room, we only have one rule – be respectful to other members.

In our site, if things or people are written about, they must be good. Things that aren't brought up, do the math. This isn't about not wanting to run from the truth, it’s just about a user friendly site that chooses to concentrate on what’s good in the hobby as opposed to the negative. If you have issues with products or people, take it up with them directly. This site will always be about pumping the good and not banging the bad.

Keep is safe! The Flying Giants advocates safe flying performed in controlled environments. Please do not post photos, or written "how-to's" that may be seen as dangerous.

Above all, keep it positive and friendly! NO DRAMA!

Relax, and enjoy it!!
