basically oil is ok on wood - but as you said the glue problem - i have over time had some oil get into the box of some of my planes(wood) - i use JJ baby powder and blue spirits to clean - all ok after that but i must say it was mostly smoke oil - the damn stuff gets in everywhere including the seams of the covering and then onto the wood!!
