Default Re: How many of you get support from you parents?

Well, I'm not a teen, but my dad helps me out more now than he ever did! When I started out, the only time I ever really got stuff was for xmas, and even then, before I actually started flying, getting him to get me a plane was like pulling teeth! His response was always "why would I buy you something that you are just going to go out and crash?" He is of the old-school, flew a little bit of control line and crashed a bunch of gliders and figured that is how it went - "build-fly-crash", LOL!
I do have him to thank for me actually getting into planes, though. He took me to one of his friend's house that had a bunch of gliders that were sitting around and baught a Goldberg Gentle lady for me. From there, I was pretty much on my own, taught myself how to fly it, flew it for almost a year under different sources of power (slope, powerpod, highlift), and actually never crashed it, at least not enough to break it - gave it to a friend, though, that proceded to crash it into little pieces within seconds!
Anyway, I am almost 32 years old, have my own house and my own planes, but live 1300 miles away from my dad. He misses having me around and missed watching me fly, so he bought a GP Ultimate 160, DA 50, and pretty much all the fixens so I'd have something to fly when I visited...
Bottom line, though is that it is YOUR hobby and, unless your mom/dad are into it too, you probably shouldn't expect a ton of help from them.
