There is nothing terribly special about setting up a radio to fly 3D except the hi/lo rates.
Set it up for high rates (3d rates) and low rates (regular rates). You might prefer to have all of the rates assigned to a single 2 position switch. Many people typically set up the high rates with a little more exponential than they would run in normal flying. How much expo is very subjective, but -35%(for Futaba) is often a good place to start on each control surface.
