Just talked to a buddy that got a 60 day suspension for squawking 1200 in the Washington ADIZ.
This is what he said happened
they where on a visual approach into, I believe Gaithersburg MD. He tells the FO. to cancel IFR. ATC comes back and says cancellation received squawk 4256 contact Gaithersburg on BLA BLA BLA. the FO squawks 1200 out habit, (when issued a clearance like that), they land, the FBO manager tells the captain he needs to call The approach controller. He does... 60 days.
Remember to keep the current squawk in the transponder till landing.
