They have someone designated as a 'taker off-er and lander' and will take off and land for everyone. Think of it this way, if they let one person take off and land, they would have to let everyone take off and land, and some might not have the skill of others, and risk losing the plane.
Last year there was a pretty big accident with a plane, missed going straight into people by about 50 feet.
Mostly safety, and to keep it all fair.
I personally didnt mind, because it made things go pretty quick. One person would wait till the plane is up, fly the pattern while next person is in line, then hand radio back to taker off-er and lander, then they hand it to next kid to fly their pattern. They got 2 or 3 pilots per flight, then came down to charge and refuel. Worked out well.
You do have to fly their planes though, so the setups and everything is the same for everyone.
Bring your other planes though, we spent the whole day friday just flying for fun with profiles and some giants. i hope to take the 3w yak if it's done, was alot of fun last year, should be this year. wonder what the second day of competition is for....
