There are a stack of reasons why a programmer is used over a radio .

When ganging servo's they do a better job at matching .

If by chance you want to change your radio you dont have to go through
programming the whole plane to suite your new TX .

You cant fry a servo by selecting the wrong plane because the servo's
will never fight each other .

Servo matching can be done prior to installation more easily .

As you say if your TX is not up to the job the programmer can do it all .

Thats all I can think of .
