Some people may think this is strange advice, but I think getting a good .46 or larger profile along with your Sim's and electrics is one of the best ways to keep learning and improving your 3D flying. Without a doubt the profiles that I've owned in the past definitley allowed me to learn new manuevers without risking an expensive plane. I learned to hover,TR, and do rolling harrriers with a profile.
