Default Florida FX3D Event Wrapup! Verdict: AMAZING!

[Rennie J. Ladines, AKA The Flyin' Hawaiian around these parts submits a wrapup of the first annual FX3D flyin in Florida! Glad you guys had a blast, and it's awesome to see some good 'ole fashion huckin goin on in March!! Thanks for the article Rennie!]

As the buzz of FX3D starts to wear off, I can’t help but think on how lucky I am, to have such a big 3D family! For 3 days (Feb 29 to March 2) Gateway RC, in Jacksonville, FL, hosted the 3D Party that blew away my own expectations. The Florida eXtreme 3D Fly-In, was a huge success. Thanks to all of the sponsors, there were no shortages of pilot schwag and Off-the-Hook Raffle Prizes. It was a gathering of some old friends, and new ones, and not one sour puss in the bunch. The event was blessed with the best weather, the best location, and folks who just wanted to Party! A 3D party that was open to Giant Scale Behemoths, to electric 3D foamies. Five Flight Stations were kept busy all day long, and nobody did not have to wait too long to get up in the Florida Sunny Skies!

The “All Up Huck” proved to be a major hit with the spectators and the pilots themselves. There is nothing like witnessing 13-14 Giant Scale Aircraft, elevatoring down, pulling to a hover, then punching out all at the same time, climbing to the high heavens.

Tail Dunk Contest was another hit with the pilots and crowds. At the beginning of the 2nd round, the first pilot “belly flopped” into the pool with the prop cutting and deflating the pool and the water came pouring out. In spite of that, the daring “huckers” finished the contest, and a great time had by all!! The Saturday night BBQ dinner was ummm-ummmm good, and construction lights helped with night flying foamies. We had five “Aunt Jamima” awards (planes going in) all of which was from pilot error or running out of gas. No crashes on the runway, flight line, or in the pits.

Special thanks “Mr. Bigg Stuff” Mike Chandley of Team Cholesterol, for keeping the deep fryer cooking all night, and blocking out the sun with his 50% aircraft.
By the end of FX3D, we had 68 registered pilots, coverage from a local newspaper, several hundred spectators, and raised over $2,600 for our charity of choice, the Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund. A great time was had by all who attended!
In parting, it was kind of sad to see all of your flying buds, old friends and new, head back home and slip into the “grind”. But only to look forward to the next family gathering, at FX3D 2009! So stay tuned for more info and I will see you there next year!

Please contact our sponsors and let them know how much you appreciate their support. And please tell them that you would like them to support FX3D 2009!
