Its not the speed of the plane that will help him keep it stalled, its the amount of elevator travel he uses when the plane is upright and inverted.
He'll find that once the planes stays stalled, the amount of rudder at the 90's will be far less than what he was probably using before.
(At least I did when I finally figured out how to do it)
