Re: IDIOTS As a B-52 driver myself, I can shed a little light. The pilot was not inexperience, he was a Lt Col, had as many hours in it or more than anyone else, was the chief of stan-eval (the guys who are supposed to be the experts). His problem was his flying abilities exceeded the capabilities of the plane. Numerous times in the past he had done crazy, stupid things with the B-52, like ridgeline crossings at 30' with people out there taking pictures, etc. Finally, his crew refused to fly with him, so the senior leadership of the base at Fairchild decided to fly with him to see if he was actually dangerous, and that day he overbanked and the plane went dynamic and went in, as you can see in the video. Almost every USAF pilot sees this video once a year as a reminder of not being a cowboy and doing stupid things in airplanes, there are good reasons for the warnings and limitations in the tech order. Its like everything else in life, lessens are most often learned the hard way. I wouldnt classifly everyone that flys your tax dollars as idiots though, all of us go through a great magnitude of training to be the safest, and most effecient pilots there are out there. This type of flying demands more than just flying from point A to B while kicking back and eating doughnuts and coffee. |
