Yes. When you loose your entire inventory of aircraft on one day (7 to be exact), It's time to take a break from the hobby to recouperate my losses.
:212: :30aq: :rain: :26:
I'll hopefully (if all goes to plan) be back in force by November, ready to prepare for the Nats.
Until then, Safe flying and happy landings everyone!
P.S. when you crash one model, stop, don't fly the rest hoping for a happy flight to ease the pain:208: :211:

7 in one day............?
I mean after say 5 didn't you think it was time to go?
I feel for your loss(es) but I will say thank you for your sacrifice to the R/C gods for the rest of us

Holy cow! And I thought I was having a bad year so far. Yikes! 7 damm! There has to be a common element for 7 all in one day. I crashed three this year, and all were for very different reasons. One was a midair, My 33%. That one hurt. Another was dumb thumb, and the third was a bungee malfunction. YA, we lose models in this hobby, but sometimes its really sucks! Ampeater, you definitly had a bad day. YA, take a break.
I hope they were all foamies.

I agree. I have been at the race track when something after something after something. I am not a quitter, but I believe in quit while you are ahead... sorry to hear of your losses.
I watched a guy out at best in the west lose 5 turbines in the weekend.... Not a good weekend

Righty Tighty then, guess it's time for the details.
First one was my new indoor ultralight depron foamy, dumb thumbed that into the ground doing a rolling vertical 8. Just a broken front end and motor mount. Won't take much to fix, but still a crash and it's unflyable as it is.
Second one was my QQ Yak 54. Had been hovering just in front and around me for a couple of min trying to get used to the new big model down low. All of a sudden, without any prior warning AT ALL, the motor sagged and stopped (final guess was due to overheating) and the old god of gravity took over. It fell straight onto its wingtip and broke the end of the aileron and broke th internals of the fuse quite bad. Fully repairable, but don't have the heart or time for it atm.
Third was my GWS Zero, which i was flying on my old Optic 6 set. just took off and all hell broke loose. The other guy on my frequency had just put the peg back and so i grabbed it to fly the Zero, but he headed off to the car with his trannie cuz he was heading home oblivious to the fact that it was still on. But didnt click to this till afterwards. Fuse in two pieces and a new motor installation required.
Fourth wasn't a crash but stripped the gears on two servos in my new EF Extra and discharged the Lipo battery in it too low and stuffed that. So new servo gears and new $120NZD lipo battery required.
Fifth wasn't me. My father was flying my GWS formosa and after a landing thought he'd launch it off again into the sun and utterly wrote that off!!!!!! Including concertinering ANOTHER $100NZD battery
of mine.
Sixth was my T-Rex Heli which i broke the new Carbon blades on and stripped the main gear and bent bits here and there by dumb thumbing again inverted hovering, well trying anyway :197:
And finnally i headed up the hill for some F3F slope racing. Had my shiny new Carbon Destiny with all the bling gear, and on my first turn had a mind block and i thought i was flying my old 2.5m Howler and banked and yanked and tip stalled her into an unrecoverable flat spin which ended in a rock. Wing and gear is ok, just alot of fuse repair.
Well hows that for a BAD DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :208: :205: :205: :205: :205: :205: :205: :205: :205: (various expicits deleted!)
And Moped, 1CAN, and Sarge will back me up in saying that taking a break for me is a rather big deal!!
Oh well gives me time to get other models in the air! Like a new Matrix! :200:

Oh did i mention the two Pattern ships i totaled at the very end of last year? One here: http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/fg181/9183-sale-typhoon-pattern-ship-slightly-used-197-a.html
And then there was my brand new Matrix at the Nats :29:
:EDIT: Oh hahahaha I left out the funniest part!!!!!!!!!!! On the way back to the car with the remains of my Destiny i locked my keys in the car!!!!!!!! And proceeded with the help of some others to take 45min with two screwdrivers and a bit of fence wire (shhhh! =p) to unlock it!!!! A buggered door seal and dented here and there.
Oh and there was getting run off the road into a power pole the week before..............

Do you believe in Karma?
That's really gotta suck mate, best of luck when you decide to get back into things. The time off will be good for you, you might re-discover the fun in it all after a little while. In the meantime spend some time with the OBW and knock back a few beers, Maybe get an RC car? Not much goes wrong with those (I just bought a TB-02 ready to drive for $180)
Sarge out.

So you mentioned a QQ Yak engine over heating. If you were hovering around yourself for a couple of minutes it is not supprising that the engine quit. If it was breaking in you surely did damage and hurt it because it needs to cool, the air from the prop does not cool it that much. Even if the engine was broken in it would still get hotter than the surface of the sun if you hovered for several minutes.

SURFACE OF THE SUN :195: Wow thats dang hot? :200: Ive had a couple Da 50cc.Never seen one that hot dude! A little pink around the edges maybe? Had
One in a EF 88" YAK. Exactly the same troubles. Sounded like a bag of nails in the harrier and would fade on power during the uplines. It would also loose power all of a sudden in a sustained hover. I was thinking maybe it could be the dreaded blow back the manual speaks of if the run in isnt done correctly? However i tuned the engine for maximum smoothness and responce to throttle inputs. Flew it with the cowl off to make sure the power wasnt sagging. Then put the cowl back on and have had no troubles since. The nasty mettalic warrble sounds vanished and the power is awsome now. ALL due to a different air temp i reckon in the cowl. The same engine in a 28% extra was running sweet as with no power loss or strange noises but slap it in the Yak and the cowl makes a wayyy different atmosphere for the engine to opperate? Dont give up on your Da mate. Tune it to suit your yak. What oil content are you using? Seems there a bit of a debate on what's the best percentage? With glow engines oil helps cooling but with petrol excessive oil makes the engine run hotter with loads of carbon deposites? Im sure with a bit of a tweek your engine will be sweet as a nut:200: Sustained hovering with ample cooling is not a problem. Ive taken off with my 28% extra streight into a hover an held it onder 15ft for 10 mins in the prophang on a 24/8 with no overheating or power loss. :209:

Well I've cut the entire front cowel intake out on the 72" Yak and cut out all the louvres and made a few more cooling exit holes. I realise it was my own fault that caused this accident with my beloved yak.
Got an electric lined up for it though :198: And for my Matrix :210:

Oh the motor was an OS 1.40RX btw lol Should've mentioned that.
When my new job settles down and I get around to getting a Comp ARF 2.6 Extra I'll be going for the DA so don't ya worry :198:

:200: Fairplay.. Duh me so slow. Thought ya was huckin the 85" qq yak:31:.. Had a power sagg with my saito 220 last sat during a long hover with my sebart funtana-140. Alas was only the muffler vibrating loose n had to kinda harrier land it a bit quick from the vertical. Thankfully no damage tho:207:

Yeah that's what I've figured with I.C motors, as long as you run one you will always encounter motor sags for whatever reason, usually when you least need them. Hence Why I am going electric for my Yak. That, with the added reliability of my new DX-7 should help eliminate or at least reduce any risk of equipment faliure.
Now the only thing left to eliminate is the old "Dumb Thumb" syndrome :197: hmmm....... me need a sim
