Wassup dudes, I'm here to share my building and flying experience of the new
Fancy Foam BLENDER! I have to say, I've watched Andrew rip the crap out of
this little bipe for a couple of years now, and I've always wanted one of my own.
Well Mike Hammel at Fancy Foam did an awesome job bringing this foamy to
the market! So before I begin, i want to thank Andrew Jesky for a KILLER design,
And Mike Hammel for making it possible to own the blender for myself:200:
this is definately a very complete kit! all of the hardware is included in the box,
and more than enough carbon rods to build the kit. All of the parts lock together easily, and the manual is very informative to keep the build simple and
straight forward.
here is all of the parts layed out, ready for assembly...

This plane is so easy to build! from box to framed up in a little over an hour.
I wasnt able to take many pictures of the actual build,
but here are just a few shots of the fuse bracing and after the wings were glued
on

any milled foam on this one?
HuckinChikn
02-29-2008, 11:09 PM
I dont believe Mike is offering the Blender already milled, but dont quote me on that... I for one will be building another one of these that will be milled and lightened no later than next week.
Here are a few more pictures of the build...

Please give a little more information as to equipment and RTF weight.
When you get it flying let us know how it goes and where you got the CG to suit you etc.

You'll love it!
Neil, the Blenders are not currently available milled. Mike mentioned that if there is enough demand for it a production milled version is possible in the future, but not yet.
Here's a picture of mine, not that it looks any different. My setup:
Hacker A10-7L (just because I want stupid power for freestyle)
Hacker X-5 ESC
Spektrum AR6100
JR S185's on tail
Futaba 3114 on ailerons
Dualsky 2S 300mAh 25/50c LiPo
Custom GWS 8x4N v1 prop

Finished mine and with battery I am at 5.3oz RTF. For some reason it feels heavy to me but maybe because there is a bit of flex in the landing gear. I will be fly'n her on Wednesday, I will post my results!!!
Cheers!!!!:198:

sweet John! I like the paint on yours. Did you get an unpainted version or is
it built from scratch?
RJ, awesome dude! looks good!
the equipment that i used is as follows:
e-flite 250 outrunner
phoenix 10 esc
lightened(2g) spektrum AR6100 RX
JR S185 servos on all surfaces
thunderpower 480mah 2S lipos
weight without battery: 4 1/2 oz, weight with battery: 5 1/4 oz
I'm starting the CG at the recommended point, wich is 2in from the leading
edge of the wing. I'll also be flying wednesday in the Gym, and i will have pics
and a video!
Here are a few pictures of the finished product....

That plane is sweet Jared. I'm not sure if the twisty ties are the best idea on the prop because if you crash your most likely going to break it that way but its a creative idea and i like it, not like those stupid rubberbands stop it from breaking the prop anyways :202:

hehe yeah the zip ties do work, but your right...if i hit the ground the motor is probably going to rip from the firewall:199: Its all good though, i consider my foamies
as "disposable items":200::197:
Jamie, Good luck at the ETOC! hope you place well! I wish i could make it this year, but time and funds just wont allow. When you start building your blenders for the
etoc, try milling a couple...I'm curious how much weight we can save!

'Bout 20-25 grams, or 2/3 to 3/4 of an ounce.:197:
Mine's about 127 grams RTF with a 4ish gram heavier motor.

HuckinChikn.... Great job on the build!!! I bought the unpainted kit from Fancy Foam and made some stencils for airbrushing. It went together nice and easy like all there kits and I will definitely buy a milled version for the weight savings!!!

One of the cool things about this airplane is that both the airbrakes and aileron SFG's are mounted without glue so they are totally removable. It's neat to experiment with different combinations. Initially I flew mine with the SFG's but without airbrakes, but now I find I achieve the knifeedge feel I prefer with the SFG's off and the airbrakes on. I may even try different size SFG's for the heck of it.

Nice bipes guys! I just bought an Insane Foamies Razorback. I'm thinking of going with a Hacker A10-7L for power.
If I may reccommend, don't. Get the 9L. The 7L is too high kv to turn an 8 inch prop unless you cut one down like I have, and I only get 3 or 4 minutes of freestyle flying. Pulls too many amps. I'm swapping it out for a 9L as soon as they are in stock.

RJ did you leave the Drag brakes and SFG's on. I like it better without the brakes. It looks like the same color swatch from the Xcaliber, I have two of those and will definitely pick up this scheme on the Blender. What is your RTF weight?
John
hpapilot
03-20-2008, 07:34 PM
I've been flying mine with neither due to the fast-paced nature of my freestyle. I've also flown the plane with SFG's and brakes and it flies very well, just differently. I'm used to the rudder feel of a plane without the SFG's and a plane without much drag, so the Blender without accessories is what i'm used to. My AUW is about 125 grams I believe. There's a lot of weight reduction I could do, and the printing does add weight, but I like the power and weight since it's my freestyle plane. Keep in mind it is also milled, so stock planes won't likely come in that light.

I'm thinking of picking one of these up and going with a set up for outdoor flying. It'll be a little heavier, but I think it'll still fly good. So, my next question is how durable is this airplane?
I don't want to buy it and all the stuff I need for but then be fixing or buying new airframes because they're so fragile.

its the elevator!! with full speed i get vipration start from the elevator .. very high vipration
why???

Sounds like there is play in the control linkage, or maybe a bad servo. I have had this happen in both cases. If the servo has any backlash at all it is most likely your problem. What servos are you using? I move the control surface lightly by hand and make sure that all horns have no play at all, especially with cheaper servos. Hope this helps.... I have this plane and am using Dymond D47s with no flutter/vibration. Good Luck
John
hpapilot
06-08-2008, 08:41 PM
This is a sorta common problem. It stems mainly from slop in the linkage, probably in the fit between the control arms and the z-bends in them. Try tightening those up with thin CA and see if it helps.

Sloppy control linkage. Tighten up the holes in the control horn and servo arm with thin CA (carefully) so the linkage can't move inside it. If this doesn't fix it, try installing a longer control horn on the elevator.
