Hi guys,

If you have an existing contest that you want re-scheduled in 2009 please let me know.
If your contest is going to be on a different weekend than it was in 2008, let me know that as well.
If your contest is not one that was on the schedule last year, the best thing to do at this time is to look at the 2008 schedule and try and pick an open weekend.
We will do our best to accomodate new contests into the 2009 schedule. I know of at least one that we want back on the schedule right now.

Weekends will fill up fast and, I'd like to try and get our schedule set early.

I do not have access to the Admin side of the IMAC website yet. That will change shortly but, this seemed like a good way to keep myself straight on the upcoming seasons contests.
Requests are coming in for dates. Thanks!
You can use this to see whats been scheduled, whats open and what contests I am still waiting to hear from CD's

Please check back to this post as I will be updating it as I get more requests from CD's

Hey Wayne. Congratulations on your election to North Central Regional Director!:198:

This zone is rapidly becoming the most contested in all of IMAC and a strong leader at the helm will help us all. Being from Ontario I know you will appreciate the number of Canadian IMAC pilots in the NC zone. I hope we will see more cross border contest registrations in the coming year and I for one plan to attend at least one and maybe two US meets next spring and summer.

I would like to see more judging seminars being sponsored by IMAC or at least have theopportunity to tap into some resources to host such an event. I have hosted 2 such seminars here in Northern Ontario and the interest it generates and the eyes it opens is wonderful. If we could perhaps have stick planes available, develop a good Aresti made simple Powerpoint cd as well as one for Judging (with videos if you want to shoot for the moon:197:) , specific handouts etc it would make hosting such events a lot easier for me and others as well.

Cap,

I agree.
It seems like more Canadian guys come down this way than the other way around.
Maybe we can figure out a way to get guys to go north and support more of the events up there.

Your effort on holding seminars is greatly appreciated.
Talk to Kurt Keolling and see if he can offer up some assistance on how he runs his seminars.
They are always very well received.

Hi Wayne:
Let me add my congratulations on your election as RD for the North Central Region. I look forward to your leadership and I am available to help in whatever way I can. I also would like to stimulate more Can-Am contest attendance. In Jackson, we have been fortunate to enjoy the company of many great friends from Canada at our Mid-Michigan IMAC contest. I have also had the pleasure of flying with my friends at the Chatham contest. I'm hopefull to get to more contests in Canada in 2009.
Just to let you know, the Jackson RC Club is planning to continue the Mid-Michigan IMAC in June 2009. Also, we had such good success as the back up plan for the Great Lakes Challenge in August that the club is considering sponsoring a second IMAC contest during the 2009 season. It will be up to Joe DiDia as CD to decide where the Great Lakes Challenge will be held but if the Jackson field is not the venue for the Challenge, we may be interested in holding a second contest in Jackson. I will be meeting soon with the new Jackson RC club BOD to discuss and will let you know as soon as I know.

Again, great to have you on board as the NC-RD. Thanks for your service to all us IMAC'ers. Let me know what I can do to help.

Wayne,
Congrats on becoming NCRD! Based on my previous experience as NCRD the hardest part of the job is scheduling contests for the upcoming season.....

We will be holding the Columbus 9th Annual IMAC Challenge on Memorial Day weekend (same weekend as the previous 8 years). That would be May 23-24, 2009.
Thanks,
Kurt

Lee,
IMAC has developed some very nice powerpoint presentations which cover different aspects of aresti and judging/flying IMAC sequences. Tom Wheeler and I have used these (and did some upgrades for new rules cycles) over the past six years. Wayne Matthews and a small team he organized are currently working on a new powerpoint presentation that specifically covers judging criteria for each Known figure in all of the 2009 sequences (Basic through Unlimited). Hopefully that will be available in the early spring as an additional resource to help educate all of us on how to judge sequences as accurately as possible.

Tom Wheeler and I have been hosting/organizing judging seminars for the past six years in the NC region and are getting a little burned out. We told Bob Hudson this last spring and he sent some new recruits from our region to the National Judging School held in the SE region in the spring 08. Hopefully they will be organizing some of the judging school(s) in our region for spring 2009!

A few of the Contest Directors have already submitted their contest date requests to the North Central Region on www.mini-iac.com (http://www.mini-iac.com)

I will not be approving those at this time as the turn over of Region Directorship is coming up soon. I felt it best to leave the "approval process" to the new RD. I didn't want to approve any events, then possibly toss the ball to Wayne with "potential lead in it" !!

Thanks to Wayne and Ed for tossing their hats in the ring for a "leadership challenge". This does show we have eager people among us to help us all have a good time.

I have been updating the NC "home page" for Wayne with pics and info on some of the "assistant RD team" he is putting together, and with any other info he has.

I hope to remain in the loop "behind the scenes" as much as possible and remain always available to help.

I too developed powerpoint presentations for reading aresti and one on judging but I haven't updated the judging one. It was a lot of work but its now on CD and available to any group that wants a copy in Canada. Since Wayne does such a good job with the sims of each routine, perhaps this could be incorporated into the presentations some how? Rick Kroeze was one of the lucky dogs who went to the Judging School last year. I was asked but had other commitments.
To run a seminar I would like to have stick planes to give out. Maybe Aeroworks could be persuaded to offer a discount on bulk orders of these for such seminars?
So much to do...so little time:197:

Wayne, looking at the two dates above, are those going to stand the way they are scheduled now ? Its around 195 miles from Toby's to Muncie, 3 1/2 hour drive...gonna be rough leaving a contest on Sunday afternoon/evening and driving straight to the Muncie for the NATS to start Monday morning.

Hey Wayne! Thanks for getting this thread started!

Speaking of Ottawa, we'd like to host our contest again. Last year it was in May, and conflicted with Joe Nall.

It looks to me like the June 6-7 weekend is fairly free in our neck of the woods.

Can we schedule Ottawa IMAC for June 6-7?

Tom

Edit: Some of the Canadians from the Toronto area are suggesting that they might be inclined to go to Jackson Mi. on the weekend of the 6-7. I'd like to change my request for Ottawa IMAC to Jun 13-14 if that's alright.

Hi Guys,

Sorry for jumping into the game a little late. Wayne, congrats and Bob, thanks. I have solidified our weekend down here in Hamilton, Ohio and wish to send out an invitation for everyone to spend their Father's Day Weekend with us here in Cincinnati. This year will be another great contest so I hope you all can come.

One big change for the weekend will be on Friday we will be hosting a 1-Day Judging Seminar. This will be a great opportunnity for guys that have yet to attend a seminar to do so. If you have attended one before come anyway and refine your skills. There will people coming in all day to practice before the contest and the seminar participants will get to practice their new judging skills on these pilots. If you are interested in helping in this seminar please PM me I need some help from those that have done these in the past.

As to the contest itself it should be another blow-out IMAC Extravaganza! Last year we had 52 Pilots and lots of event sponsors, this year we hope for the same. This made for one of the Nations largest IMAC regional contest. I hope you can be a part. Stay tuned for more details.......

John,

That has been the case for the last several years. Kurt Keolling and Tom Wheeler put them on and they deservedly need a break.
We are not saying there wont be one in 09.. Just that right now, there isnt one scheduled.

The Hamiton, Ohio contest will have a Mini Judging seminar on the Friday before that contest starts. That Friday is June 19th. Not that anyone needs more reasons to attend this awesome contest but, the mini seminar is just another added plus. Thanks Ric.

I dont have it listed on the schedule but my club in Bloomington, Illinois will be hosting an "Intro to IMAC" weekend on April 18th.
Its designed for new guys who have no idea what to expect at a contest, not sure what the sequence is supposed to look like and any other questions they may have related to IMAC.

Dan Knippen did one of these in Chicago and Tim Landon did one last year near Indy. Both were really good and we helped out a lot of people thinking about trying IMAC.

Thanks for the pics. last night :198:

Ontario held their own Flying and Judging seminar in February ( this year) They had 40 (plus) attendees. They also had 3 "minor" seminar / training events.

There is another F&J in the planning stages for Ontario, likely in the "Toronto area" for early 2009. Anyone ( of course) is welcome to attend.

It would be advantageous if other "local" areas held their own seminars in the off season / pre season, if for no other reason than to get together to socialize

I am the only one at my club that is currently flying IMAC but I think there may be several others who are interested (I know of at least one.) At our December club meeting I’m going to float the idea of hosting an IMAC introduction program. My plan would be to invite anyone in the Milwaukee area interesting in learning what IMAC is all about to some indoor sessions this winter to discuss what IMAC is all about, sequences, reading aresti, what to expect at a contest, a photo show of NC events, roll of the caller, and any other information I can pass along.

If I can get a group interested I would then schedule a Saturday or Saturday/Sunday after the snow disappears for an intro to IMAC clinic. I am comfortable with organizing and leading the indoor discussion part but would need some help from more experienced IMAC pilots for the outdoor program (Jason, Andy, maybe Frank M?)

My short-term goal would be to have some new pilots from the Milwaukee area participant in the Minnesota, Chicago and other NC events next year. Long term I would like to see an IMAC event return to the Milwaukee area.

CD's,

Thanks for getting your contests scheduled so early. This will help tremendously.
If you have not done so, I need you to request your contests, with the dates shown on Post 1, through the IMAC website.
This will help get the schedule for the entire 2009 season to show up there.
I now have access to the admin side of the website and between myself and Roy Barrow we will be able to have it appear there.

Thanks!
