engine for 46 size 3d plane.

I got 46 size 3d plane and planning to install OS 50ax on it. My question is, would this engine able to pull enough power for 3d flying? Or do ineed to install bigger engine, maybe OS 60 SF which is lying unused in my cabinet.

Please help.

It depends on the plane you have , the wing loading, the weight. Also will it balance properly with larger engine? Also some 3d planes do not get justice by putting a larger displacement engine in them due to the extra weight etc.. Sometimes using the right size engine with the right size prop and the right exhaust will be the ticket for 3d.

What plane is it? I don't have personal experience with the 50ax but I would have to guess that it would work. Just keep it light and don't be afraid to play with different props, not all planes respond the same to the same prop so experiment. When your trying to put the power down to the road that can make all the difference.

What has worked for me on any of these 40 size profiles or built up planes is use the os 46/50 or satio 56 with a 12.25x3.75 3d prop, and run 25% or 30% heli fuel and you will have all the power you need, I have been flying for Omp( ohio model products ) for year years and all the diffrent profiles we have this is the set up i like the best. i have seen many people use larger 70 size motors and yea they run 10% or 15% fuel and have all the power they could ask for, but there plane grows in weight, about 1 to 1.5lbs and that on a 40 size plane is way to much to do the 3d that the plane was ment for, the lighter you keep any manf. plane the better it will fly for 3d

try the magnum 46 they are cheap and I have used many of them with out any problems
a friend and I have the same airframes with the same equipment. I have an OS 46 he has
a magnum 46 and there is an huge differance between the two, his is much beter

BTW we both ues 12.25x3.75 props and run cool power 25%

All of the 46 size planes I built in the past had the same engine and prop. YS .63 with APC 13X4W. Works great!!!

This plane is Freestyle Rush ARF 3D pattern plane. flying weight is 2.4 Kg. Engine requirement: two stroke .46 -.53. Okey will try to put on .50 and experiment on the right props.

Wow, at 2.4Kg don't expect too much in the way of ballistic vertical.

Your average .46 will haul a 4.5lb profile around pretty nicely but an extra pound will put most .46's out of the running for good 3D.

Is there an OS50AX? I thought there was a 50SX and 55AX

I have 2 katana 46's, one has an OS 46AX and the other one has an OS 55AX, the 46 has no problems and has enough power to do 3D maneuvers on 15% nitro cool power fuel.
The other one which has an OS 55AX, also has no problems, and has all the power you need to do 3D stuff with it
The 46AX is a bit noisy so I recommend the 55AX, which has very smooth running and is not as loud as the 46AX.
I find the APC 12X4 the best for 3Ding

What is your Katana's flying weight, is it lighter than the specs of the RUSH?

I had a low-wing model planned for a .40 but I had no engine of this type, I put an old OS.61 FSR, with a 12x6 propeller. It's true that it was climbing well, but it was not ballistic. It allows to learn to manage the throttle. Today this model soon find a new youth with a 1150W electric motor. As for the .61 engine, it soon propel a GP Reactor .46. I think it will help in 3D aerobatics...

I had a Rush w/ a Saito 82 and 13-6 APC (maybe 13-4W or 14-4W) that gave it power to spare. The Rush is a blast, capable of KE'ing the length of the runway and back w/ hardly a touch of rudder, blender to a killer slow flat spin, can snap roll in the blink of the eye and inverted harrier with minimal rocking. The 46 or 50 will pull it, but you may be left wanting more umph with this plane.

What engine did you end up with in the Rush? How's it flying for you?
