Hi, im having trouble with my carb settings. I use a tachometer to find the peak rpm, and then back it off 200 rpms from the max, and then i try to use my ear to get all of the 4 cycle sound out of the low end...when it is on the ground it acts perfect, it will go from idle to full with no miss. But when i fly it, it has no power from idle to mid throttle....
any suggestions for tuning this DL50? (i sent an e mail to the DL support people and they sent me back a copy and paste of the instructions they sent with the engine, haha)
this motor is on a Aeroworks 50cc Yak

Sounds like ya might want to back out the low end needle a tad or two ?
Usually some burble is desierable I've been told.

Tune the low needle first, then tune the high

If the mixture changes in the air you have cowling drafts or cowling pressure issues. Put an 8-32 pressure tap on the vent plate and plumb it into your fuse.

ok i will try some of those things and see how it goes.

Changing needles to compensate for cowling pressure/draft issues did not work on mine. After doing this mod it was great.

This is how I ended up tuning my 2 DL-50's. I tried to tune it like my buddy's DA-50, but couldn't get the burble out of the low and mid range. It seems the high end needle has more of an effect on the DL low end.
First I set the needles to factory positions. On the ground I tune the high needle to max rpm. Then I tune the low needle to get a good low to high transition. Then I fly the plane and then lean the high needle only to get the burble out. Check transition from low to high on ground to check for too lean, richen the high needle if needed. Also measure the head temp for too lean.
