50cc battery set-up

Hey guys,
Setting up a new 89" AJ Slick. Installing a spektrum Ar9100 receiver and considering using two 7.4 volt 2 cell lipo packs with no regulators...
What is everyone's opinion on no regs using 5955 or 8611a servos???
I heard many are setting planes up this way although it may void servos warranty???

Never tried it... I went with a little simpler setup with one A123 2300 pack with 3 leads. Two leads for the RX and the last one acts as the balence tap during recharge and the ignition power during flight... Simple lite weight and no major concerns about to much juice to the servo's... (Although I haven't heard of to many problems with those servos running that voltage.)

dont use straight lipo's on those servo's. not designed for it. i use 2 a123 1100mah and it is plenty of power and run time. only 6oz total.

if you want to run unregulated i say a123 and some hitec's like the 5645's may save some money.
if you wanna run unregulated lipo's, hitec has a one ( hs-7955TG $89 ) out and a few in the works.

that rx should be nice, looks like it has a soft switch built in... that will save money vs heavy duty battery switches.

So, if i go with the two a123 packs unregulated, how many flights will i get between charges with 1100 ma packs versus two 2600 packs? I like the idea of weight savings for sure.

i think around 5 flights with two 1100mah and double that with 2300mah. i have both kinds and my 1100mah doesn't keep a high voltage like the 2300 pack. i don't use it anymore, it acts more like a regular pack than a123.

The only way to know how many flights you can safely fly is to measure it yourself.

Generally For 15 min 3D flights.

2) 1100's 3-4 flights
2) 2300's 7-8 flights

I have pulled as much as 500 mah's per flight doing a lot of harrier rolls and a 16-18 min flight. I have also pulled as little as 200 mah's in the same length flight so your flying style has a lot to do with it. I dont like pulling more than 750mah's on the 1100's or 1500mah on the 2300's without recharging. Either way will be fine you can save a little weight and recharge more often or carry a little extra weight and fly all day without recharging.

i have the 2 1100 mah a123's and i can get more than 5 flight out of it. but it depends on the flying to. when i was testing to see how many mah i use for each flight i was doing alot of snaps. walls, and other things that i could think of to see how the batteries would hold up. and no issues at all. the voltage stayed up and didn't get even close to the brown out area on my spectrum reciever. lately i have been getting in 5 flights and only using 120 mah per battery. but i have been practicing imac so the load isn't as great and full out 3d.

great, i am leaning toward two of the 42%products 1400 ma LiFe packs that TBM sells..... How about ignition? I guess i would need to regulate voltage for a DA ignition using LiFe packs just like my Li Ions?
I would use a nimh on ignition but I would rather use my Ion cube only at the field..

either a 4.8v pack or a 5v regulator will be just fine.

No you don't have to regulate A123's with a DA ignition .

That is great if I do not need to regulate the LiFe's on ignition. So, 1400 ma on receiver and ignition is the ticket then unless i want to carry the extra weight of 2600's, but they seem pretty heavy, and i want to keep it light. The slick is a big 50cc plane

trkpony The 42 percent products are a good line. I sell some of there products and have talked to Ken the owner about those fusion batterys in his line. I dont want to start anything on the forum about what is a better battery. I can tell you that Ken believes in putting the best products out there at a reasonable price. Hopefully I will be carrying these batteries soon.

My parents have a house just down the street and a while back visiting I saw the planes from their front yard. Don't visit there much, but when I do I'll try to bring plane w/ me. Although probably be small unless I bring trailer.
