Well guys here we are again, Its time for a new bird and I decided to make it a Dalton 42% Extra 260. My job has kept me on the road for some time now, so if I wanted to fly this new plane any time soon it would have to be built by some one else other than me. Natually I called the man himself Tony Russo and as you all know he has less time than me. However he was quik to tell me about A.J. Lee from Midland TX and I gave him a call. After talking to A.J. it was obvious that he was the right man for the job.
A.J. is a good guy that loves to talk about planes, so he put me in line behind the raffle plane he was building for TAS. I still dont understand why Tony gets to go before me...:200:
just kidding Mr. Russo- Well he finished the raffle plane this week for the TAS (Tony will cover/ paint)
So lets get to it and start with the set up
Dalton 42% Extra 260

8717HV on the throttle
5" Tru Turn spinner (painted to match cowling)
29 x 12N 3 blade prop Mejzlik
Switches will be a custom made pin and flag the guys at Fromeco are making ( I dont know yet)
no regs on this ship.
The colors will be Apple Green - White and Black from Ultracoat. The picture below is the basic scheme we will use and the graphics are pretty close as well. A.J. will be e-mailing me pics of the build and I will post them here. And I all ready wish it was done:200:
OK here are the pics from the first day. Be patient with me it will get better real quik
How does one get in touch with AJ Lee? I am only 3 hours from him. Great looking scheme by the way...

Thats what I am hoping for........I have about 6 different schemes that I was going back and forth with.......but I think this will work good for this plane. :198:
We will know for sure in a few weeks.
If you do call A.J. make sure you pencil in at least 1 hour of phone time... That boy loves to talk.... Fun guy, and super unbelieveable builder...

Tex, i figured you would throw a set of RE3's in your new bird. What's up wit the canisters

Well this plane is going to weigh in around 37-38lbs...I dont think I would need that much power. Planes that come in closer to the 40-43lbs benefit more from the RE3. Thats how it was explained to me and it made since to me........and besides I allready had the set up before Reza came out with all the new info........however I can allways change it later.

Good point, but I hear some are weighing 38-39 with the RE3's
Looking good Tex! When you get this done, I need to have a pull on it too :) A small invitation to Texas is all I need:D
I like the colors as well!
Reza.......You of all people will never need an invitation.........you can fly anything I have, even if I cant make it, I ll have my wife open the shop and you can hook up to the trailer and go fly. I'am trying real hard for TAS this October.
Tex,
Buddy you are too kind but if you are not there I would have to refuse to come! Last time I was told the same thing; my friend’s wife opened the door with a shotgun in her hands. She told me I have to either pay up for everything my friend had bought or she would be put me out of my misery! LOL
Aside from joking a good friend of mine and his family were at my house. Men were talking, women were doing their own chat and kids were playing. All of a sudden when I told my friend he needs to get something plane related (he is into glow planes), his wife stopped talking to my wife and looked me straight in the eye and asked me not to give him any ideas please! She was serious and mad LOL Well, we went to my garage for the rest of conversation but she was not happy at all! :D

Yea my wife bought me a 40 size tiger stick for Christmas about 4 years ago.......she wanted me to get back into the hobby.......you know just being nice........Now she kicks herself in the A$$ every time I get a new plane....Because TEX dont do 40 size glows any more.......ooops....Sorry babe......:200:
LOL! they find out sooner or later :(
I have a friend who's been buying jets and not telling the truth about the price. Let's say if the Jet worth 6K, he would say 850! I told another mutual friend about my evil idea, I told him let's call his home and when the wife picked up, we say, sorry to bother you but I am calling with regards to the Jet you have for $6500 in craiglist, would you let it go for $6k LOL or is the owner available to talk on the phone?LOL
LOL......Thats good......but my wife is sneaky........she called Desert Aircraft the other day and ordered a T shirt for me and guess who she was talking to.........Tony Russo.......now my wife didnt know about the new 260 that A.J. has on the table yet.........But I got a phone call from her saying that she ordered a shirt for me and she told me that she talked to somebody with the last name of Russo.........:195:.........then she asked what the 1,500 check was for...... she had me....so begin to lie as much as possible.......yes honey I got another plane....and the lie was I was using the motor and electronics out of the YAK that crashed.......But as we all know its all new equipment........So Tony ......be carefull when my wife calls being sweet......she bites hard:200:

Dang dude, thats a foul on the playing field on Tony! hahaha Another friend/hobbyist should never consult with the wifey about our planes. lol Its just part of the game. Tony I'm at a loss of words here. lol hahaha, I'm sure glad my wife doesnt have Mac Hodges phone number. I'd be in a world of hurt. :)

I never said anything to her about the plane that Bobby had bought.
Let me clear this up........My wife has no idea who Tony Russo is.......and I am 100% sure that she doesnt know he owns Dalton Aviation.........she just remembered the name so to play it safe ......... I spilled the beans. And even so she did get the T-Shirts for me. And she doesnt mine what I get as long as the bills are paid and money in the bank.....So Tony as far as I'am concerned your good bud....:198:
And one other thing. I'am the boss and I wear the pants............when she's not around....:200:

LOL........I love my job :200:
Holy crap.........A.J. your amazing.......I guess I will be getting a phone call real soon telling me to come get it.
More photo's of the build, wings sheeted, fuse sheeted, turtle deck plumbing and mounted it looks like................:198:
Tex,
Just in case and to make your work easier later, ask him to put the mounts for the tune pipe in there! Even if you don't use it, it will not add much to the weight at all but makes the job of installing them 10 times easier for you or the next owner if you ever get tired of flying it;) (unlikely):D
Looking good buddy!
Way ahead of you...........we were talking about doing that yesterday....:198:

yes:198:, you will never go back to standard muffler again once you fly with tuned pipes. Well I hope to fine out this Friday with my new Dalton
So what do you think Tony...........go with the RE3's or stay with the KS95's...........:202:
Update: Ok after some consulting with the higher ups.....:202:......we will be changing out the cans for the RE3 tune pipes. The set up will be the way Reza has outlined it in his thread. You will be able to here this plane screaming for its mommy on the uplines........I am very excited.....can not wait to get this bird in the air........:200:
Awesome Awesome Awesome!
That Dalton will be on Rockets!
The engine is going to love it!
Now I really need a pull on that plane LOL

I hear ya, take a look at what a DA170 on muffs does to a 40% yak at 36lbs......watch the take off, this was my 3rd flight when it was new last August....with the RE3's, that B1tch will be stupid powerful....awesome stuff Dude.
When your setting incidences these are the numbers you want to see.......nothing but zero's....
great job A.J. :198:
Ok Desert Aircraft sent a shipping confirmation and the pipes are on the way....Now we ordered the 14" headers but they will be here in 2 weeks.........And before you say it we are not going to silver solder extension on..........and it boils down to me having the worst luck of any body I know......We will use the extensions to set the pipes. And when the 14" headers get in all we have to do is hook them up........Its coming along real good and before you know it she will be ready.......:198:
Very nice!!
btw, my pleasure Tex! That's the most rewarding thing for me to see someone else is enjoying it as much as I do! And yes, if I had the time to build one, I would've built one of those bad boys for sure!
