Help,

Have a 3.0 Comp Arf Extra 260 set up with dual ailerons and a Matchbox on each wing. Because of the factory servo bay placement, the only points throughout the servo arm travel that do not bind is the neutral and end points - which are set with the matchbox. All other points in the servo arm travel bind and fight with each other because of poor geometry. This is due to the unequal lengths of the control rods on the inboard and outboard servos and the angle of the servo arms not in perpendicular alignment with the hinge line of the aileron.

Hope the attached pics demonstrate the problem.
Please offer suggestions or solutions to make both aileron servos travel in harmony.

Thanks - Jaketab

Hmm....

Not a Comp-Arf expert by any means but I went and looked at my 2.6 Extra 260 and the aileron horns as well as the servo arm are mounted at 90 degrees to the aileron hinge line.

I've put the second aileron horns on mine as well and will be running a dual ball link just like your setup, but my servo is on the underside of the hatch which is different from what you've posted.

Again, yours is the bigger model but I can't see how in the world it could work without binding as it's currently setup.

Zeeb,

Thanks for reply.
The CARF 3.0 M 260 was orginally designed to gang 2 servos on the inboard portion of the wing.
The servo on the tip end was optional. The servos are recessed inside the wing.

If I was only using 1 servo per wing, the geometry would not be a factor as the ball links would compensate. The servo bays on the wings of this plane definately do not line perpendicular to the hinge line.

Others with this plane are bound to have discovered the same problem, but I have yet to read any threads addressing this issue. The attached file may better demonstrate the problem.

Thanks and hope some others will respond - Jaketab

Ahhh....

Got a buddy with one of the 3.1's and it's got the ganged servos on the inboard, forgot about that even though I helped him with it out at the field on Maiden day due to an issue with the ailerons.

I looked at the .pdf and it says what you've got is wrong so I'm more confused but then there's nothing new about me being confused... lol

Have you called your rep? If it's Andy, from past experience I think one can get Andy on the phone just about 24/7.
