Altitude & Prop Selection

OK. I tried to find a past thread on this but didn't find anything. I can't imagine this hasn't been discussed to death, so please forgive me if I'm beating a dead horse.

I fly at over 5000 feet and I find that even the most over powered (if there is such a thing!) airplanes struggle at this altitude. My 3w 106 on a PAU 36% Edge does OK, but can't sustain a hover. I tach'ed it a 6300 RPM and am running a 28x10 CF prop. Should I go up in diameter? Pitch? Both? Neither?

Or should I just convince my wife to move?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Wow how much does that thing weigh. There is one in our club the guy says its under 25 lbs. Anything under 27lbs should hover with ease. I have 2 Da 100s on 27.5 lbs planes on Vess 27A props turning 6300 and one of the Fields I fly at is at just under 7000 ft. I can hold a hover no problem at a little over half stick I'm guessing 75% . I cant help you with prop selection on a 3W 106.

I know, right? You'd think the thing would have no trouble, but it sure does. Maybe I just can't hover. Hmmm. Someone told me going UP in diameter at high altitude was better than going up in pitch, but I'm trying to get a consensus before I go out & blow more money on a prop.

Moving sounds even better since we have two feet of snow on the ground already.
