Hello, Well, I just bought my first gas motor and am about to buy a plane for it. I was a glo flyer then went to all electric, but I miss the sound of a internal combustion motor. I hated the glo mess, so I thought gas might be a good compromise. I am in the landscaping business and have used and repaired gazillions of small 2-strokes so I am comfortable with them. I can't wait to fly a plane with one. I didn't want to go too big at first ( with dinero either!) so I bought a Peak 26 from a vendor on RC Universe, and sent a new 2bbl carb. Toro 25.4cc powerhead to Scott at Brillelli to convert. So, I will have to motors to fool around with. Haven't even looked at planes for the motors at this point. I am thinking that maybe I will get something for leasure flying first with the motor exposed so I can get a feel for tuning and running the motors. I am an intermediate flyer just learning 3D, so I thought the old reliable Ultra Stick Lite might be a good all around compromise for a first plane then get an Edge 540 or similar machine. Anyway, money IS a limiting factor so one step at a time. We have a nice place to fly in the middle of a cattle pasture on the South Shore of St. Croix in the Virgin Islands. We named our field, Hidden Valley Field, since it is protected by hills on three sides of the valley. Only two of us flying, and I will be the first one ( that I know of ) to fly gass on STX. I think I was the first to fly electric too! AND, I really should hook up the trailer and take the Snapper out there to mow today before the grass gets out of hand but I am kinda lazy today! Maybe later this afternoon when the sun is low. Cheers, Norm |

There is a great 26cc conversion for an Ultra Stik Lite 120 ...you have to chop off the nose a little and rebuild the firewall...but it is a great first gasser. If you search RCU for the conversion you will find it. Good luck, and welcome to the truly addicting Gasser club. With your line of work, you may find a whole host of engines in "broken" pieces of equipment to convert...more than few people have. |

Hey Norm, It's great to have you here!! The Ultra Stick is a sweet flying plane, and a great starter to the big stuff. It flies pretty easy if you want, but will really get wild if you crank up the throws. I'm sure if you go the Giant Scale Airframes forum and ask, there would be a bunch of guys that will be able to help. Good luck! Welcome to the Giants!!!

"Good luck, and welcome to the truly addicting Gasser club. With your line of work, you may find a whole host of engines in "broken" pieces of equipment to convert...more than few people have." Uh! I wouldn't want to even touch the stuff that has been used to death here. Rough place for equipment. I had a couple of Kawasaki TD 33 motors from some generic brushcutters we had ordered. Really good motors, but dated and used. I want to fly, not fix, so why mess with older carburetors and motors. I did that for work! Now, if I had a nice shop and could do stuff like Scott at Brillelli then that would be a LOT of fun! I hope this China PEAK 26cc won't be a lot of trouble. Certainly not a top of the line machine, but most of the guys that have bought them seem to be hapy with them. As one guy here says about the motor, "you get what you pay for". |
