Question Freestylin' -need help/advice on "how to"

BTW if you don't want to read all that all I'm really saying in all that is what are the do's and don'ts and and what are the ABC's so to speak?

Hey, I just got my first gasser not to long ago and I'm lovin' it and I have already went and done some stuff in imac basic event but never really took it to far mostly from plane limitations (I was using a .40 at the time) but now I have a good plane that I could take to sport and I love to 3d, I did what I could with a stik which wasn't a hole lot but now I'm crankin on the sticks and am looking at getting in to this freestyle stuff. Does anyone have experience with this? I am thinking of a combination steppenwolf- magic carpet ride, Switchfoot- meant to live (it has good timing for menuvers, c'mon) But have no idea where to start. Should I go to the field and like just put my ipod on a repeat of those 2 songs and just fly while listening to get an idea or what?

Thanks for all the help

Sounds like a plan, get a good track going on your IPod and fly to it. Remember to always be flying a maneuver, never just flying around between maneuvers. (It's harder, but it looks a lot more professional) If you're going to compete, remember to mix it up a bit, you get points for originality, timing, slow paced smooth flying and fast pace. Keep everything centered and symmetrical, whether your in a harrier, rolling, KE, whatever. I like flying as precise as I can, stopping and starting on point every time.

Hope this helps,
Brandon

STAY IN SCHOOL. PLEASE.
For now I'd worry more about getting a better education than flying!

At least he knows to capitalize the first word in a sentence and seperates thoughts into paragraphs. More than you can say for some people

It would be nice to get a Biff cast with some of the top guys talking about thier freestyle routines. From the music they chose and why, to sequencing the moves and how they prepare. It would be a nice twist to the IMAC type of interviews...

Ive heard commentary from some of the "Big Guys" about this very thing and the way they prepare is quite different from one another.
Some prefer to pick the music first, put together a CD then listen and practice it over and over till they get it.
Some prefer to pick and fly the manuevers they want to do and get them down real good. Then they go mix the music to match a video of them flying it .
Some, believe it or not, just shoot from the hip and make it up as they go.
I guess its up to you and your style and what works. Myself, I try to get my music, practice each track until I get each section down, then put it together. Just try different things. You definately want a variety of music - fast pace, slow, etc.
Some prefer music with no singing, just the music. Its all up to you, your style. It is a direct expression of your personality and thats what I think is so cool about it.
I usually mix 4-5 different tracks of music into one program. Some just use one song. Its up to you. Half the fun is just coming up with it and watch it develop into something really cool.
One thing that helps me is to get a friend to video you from a spectator's view and then watch it on tv after your done. You will be surprised how different it looks when your watching it versus flying it. Make some changes and try again. Its kind of like figure skating except its flying. Good Luck!!!

Did I ever say anything about not staying in school? I plan on goin through the hole deal and go to a competitive college.

But anyway I thank you all for your help and greatly anticipate any more suggestions on how to start in this amazingly cool and individual event.
