Default Nice one Groups. how lame.

I saw this and copied before it was killed.

Hey Jim and Jim,

Hope you guys are well, look forward to seeing you in Toledo. I hope you don’t mind me responding to this thread, and I apologize if this is out of line, but as a business owner, and staunch modeling supporter in our community, I’m deeply concerned about the general premise, and underlying motive of this event.

You mentioned earlier in this thread that “We couldn't work out the coverage that we wanted over there so we are doing our own thing.”. I’m trying my best not to read into this negatively, but based on this statement and logic, is it fair to assume that if you were not able to work out coverage for The Joe Nall that you would have a fly-in in Woodruff during the same dates? Personally, I have never heard of any modeling media source creating an ad-hoc fly-in for the primary purpose of “having something to cover”. The only way I can interpret this is “We couldn’t arrange the coverage we demanded, so we’re going to hold an event with the specific intent to strong arm and poo poo them”. Please accept my apologies, but for the folks that are in the know, this appears to be the reality of the situation and is readily transparent. Personally, I’m struggling to see this otherwise.

There is certainly a level of etiquette that exists within our tiny modeling community, the event circuit, and the accompanying cottage industry from which folks work hard to make a living. It is my belief from experience that ethics, mutual respect, friendship, and business relationships go a long way in this hobby. It certainly seems like the reason this fly-in is being proposed during the exact same time period of the ETOC is to in some way undermine viewer ship and attendance from this well respected, established, and world class event out of nothing more than contempt for the organizers, and the fact that they did not grant RCG unbridled access.

Out of respect for the ETOC, I might suggest holding your fly-in during the hours of 9am through 5pm. That way folks can have a longer period to fly, with the opportunity to experience the best of both events. That would seem to make the most sense and would ease the minds of the naysayer. Think about it, best of both worlds, a killer day of modeling for those who attend, and everyone would be happy.

Are there any reasons why this option has not been considered? It is also my understanding that your proposed event will not be AMA Sanctioned specifically due to the proximity of The ETOC. Is this a concern? Jim, you write for the AMA, I know you get this stuff, and understand better than anyone, the spirit of the sanction radius requirements right? They do this specifically to mitigate conflict and situations just like this.

It’s probably important to note that I do not have any involvement with the organization of The ETOC. I do however have an interest in web coverage, and deeply respect the folks who have worked many years creating the success of The ETOC. Case in point, it's a real bummer seeing what's going on here.

In parting, whatever your guys ultimate decision and goals are, I certainly wish you the best with your endeavors, and I apologize if I am grossly offtrack. I also look forward to attending The 2007 ETOC, and anxiously await the excitement, innovation, and amazing competition that this year’s event will undoubtedly present.

Best wishes–

Max Duncan

To the best of my knowledge, no one from RCGroups requested exclusive coverage of E-TOC.

We have tried to work with the event for years, since its inception. It has never worked out for us. Last year is the only time we were allowed to sponsor the event at all, and it was clear that we were not as welcome as we'd like, though I appreciate the effort that was extended to accomodate us at the last minute.

This year things broke down because we were told we would not be allowed to take a video camera into the building. That was the last straw. Them's the breaks.

I'm running my own event because I've always wanted to do it and I've heard from many people that they would support an open fly-in at Toledo. It's what the show needs.

The time of our fly-in has been set in accordance with the wishes of the Weak Signals club, so that we do not conflict with their show. E-TOC's schedule is not something we considered when planning our event.

No hard feelings from our end. Sometimes grown ups argue. They call that "politics"...I think we'll both have great events with plenty of attendees and I hope we can keep lines of communication open elsewhere. Flying Giants would certainly be welcome to bring video cameras to any RCGroups sponsored event, as has always been the case in the past.

Any further conversation on this should resume in private, where it has always belonged.

I'm closing this thread. Folks can continue the discussion in another thread here at RCGroups or elsewhere. I don't mind the discussion but sometimes I need to close threads to make sure that my words stand.

Jim

and thats why I won't go to RCG... I hate "politics" it ruins the hobby and makes it no fun. to me the deal RCG is doing is kinda weak there not even making it AMA Sanctioned(I wonder why???). but hey thats just my opinion
