Giants, I saw an instructional video on the Hi-Tec programmer and had a few questions I was hoping would get answered here. From what I could tell, the big advantages were being able to set your own mid points, end points, speed of the servo and direction. This would help eliminate binding and using sub-trims, etc, that are commonly used when setting up servos via your radio. *If you were using the Hi-Tec programmer for a 100 cc set up with 2 servos per aileron, would this eliminate the need for matchboxes? *Would you then use a Y connector to plug in the 2 servos used for each side into one channel each? For example to Channel 1 would have both left aileron servos and Channel 6 would have the right 2 servos? Would this be too much juice being pulled from one channel? I know using a Y reverser before even with glo-setups has been a nightmare.. *Are matchboxes usually used to plug more than one servo operating in the same fashion into the same channel? Any insight would be appreciated. Looks like I'll be going bigger in the future and there is always more to learn. -Brad |

Hey Brad, If you take enough care you can program the servos to match each other exactly. It's time consuming for sure. Of course you must make sure your mechanical geometry is close to identical as well. In other words you don't want the outer servo to swing its arm 1 inch to get 35 degrees while the inner servo only moves 3/4 inch for the same angle. I've setup many an aileron this way with great success. It helps to use a watt meter (i.e. Hanger 9) while doing this. What I also do is buss the power directly to the servos. If you use a Y to two or more digital servos the current is limited by the connector. I believe a normal servo connector can handle 2 amps before it starts to heat up and melt. So I use the Smart-fly switches that have two output wires. I cut one end off and solder an ultra plug Female Deans connector on the end. Then I make up a 4 way Y (actually an X) ![]() Take the male end of the deans connector and solder a red and black wire onto it. Then open the Y on the power and ground and solder those wires in to the Y using heat shrink to protect the exposed wires. Of course it’s much easier to use a match box to distribute power especially if you don’t know how to solder. Just my .02 hope this helps. Jim |
