Default My J'TEC Extra 330L Building thread

Hi dudes,
Well I finally started on my J'TEC Extra 330L with the help from Rolling Harrier and the TAnkster tonight.

I am really just getting started and I am in no rush with this project. We just bought a house so it is going to go a little slower than I wanted it to. But

I had RH help me set the tail and epoxied that in and drilled out the landing gear.
That was about it tonight. It was our building night so a few other things were going on. So below is what I did tonight along with a few others like Tank, Easy Ed, and Ernie. I'll have more as I go along!

Hello,
My project is going very slow. Last night was building night and I felt kinda sick and not into it. Everyone else was. So I didn't take any pictures. Anyway I was able to get the elevator hinges epoxied in after Rolling Harrier got me going. I always use epoxy. I know there is some kind of hinge glue that would be neater and not as messy but I have never had one fail that I can remember that I used epoxy so I am sold on that. Rolling Harrier did one and I did the other. Ed worked mounting an engine on his new Mayhem. Tank was here and did a few things to help out..RH brought his incidence meter and Tank, Joe me and RH put all the wings on and checked it out and everything was dead on 0. Perfect! My beautiful wife was off and she cooked for us all and we ate had coffee and desert like we needed that and it was a good night...I felt better today...thought I was getting flu last night having chills....

I went down tonight and checked everything and drilled out ANOTHER Vess prop for this weekend if Spring ever arrives here on the Northeast coast..What screwed up weather. DAMN! I hate these long winters! It is cold and I saw snow falling tonight!
When it isn't doing that the wind is blowing 40MPH! But we are hopeful! But the elevators turned out excellent..Anyway here are a few pictures I shot tonight!

Happy Easter to everyone. Well the wife had to work a 12 hour shift and won't be home till midnight. All friends are with their families. All my family is down south.
So what do I do? I work on the J'TEC!

I was able to get the rudder done today. I got to get more glue to finish the ailerons. I should be stocked up soon.

ANYWAY, What I did today was use 30 minute epoxy and glued in the kletts hinges. I surprised myself keeping it clean. I use alcohol to keep the site clean and afterwards.
I made sure I lined the hinges all up and fit them all in place before I mixed up the epoxy. I marked with a blue felt pen to make sure the rudder was in place and not too high or too low. I mixed up epoxy evenly A & B. Then I took a very thin long square blade out of one of those cheap exacto knife kits and pushed the epoxy in both sides and put epoxy on all sides of the hinge. In the middle of the hinge I used Vaseline to keep it from getting glued.. I usually use Marvel Mystery oil but I was out.
I taped it up and let it dry for 4 hours and then checked it out taking the tape off and swinging it back and forth. It is ready for some Rolling Circles, Harriers, Knife edges etc! Here are a few pictures I took. The servos should be in soon and I should be moving a little faster. I am in no hurry and taking my time and learning something!

I just seen this supposed to be in the Get it dun area. Sorry. I think Max wrote me and said Get it dun and I wrote back saying I am trying! LOL Now I know what he meant. Oh well what can I say? An honest mistake. Or just a victim of the 70's ya know?

Hey dudes,
Building night! I didn't do anything on the plane tonight. I am getting ready to do the hinges for the wings. BUT We all sat in front of the big screen TV an hooked the computer up and flew some of the new 3D planes I created and some that we got of the giants tonight. We flew and my wife cooked for us and we got full as a tick and sat around. I was able to finish my gas tank. I installed a 3 way switch and got a box and wired everything up and it works great! I have the return line with a filter and I should have no problems with over fill now. I have a standard plastic filter on the fill line. Looks great and works excellent!

I am thinking of building these and selling them myself. I think I could do better than $199.00 for sure! I fix it with a cigarette lighter plug. Pretty cool.

Hello everyone,
I have been pretty busy and haven't been able to do much on the plane until lately. Finally got it about finished. Just some fine tuning and put the axles & tires on, finish the pull-pull, cut the canopy and install, hook up the gas tank, program the radio and control surfaces and iron it all down and heat gun it! Get some decals.

We've worked on it in the past on building night, but it rained yesterday and I got the fever plus I do not have anything to fly right now because I wore out the 3W.

So I took some snaps.
I went with 3 hitec 5955 servos for the rudder and the pull-pull system.
Using two Futaba 9 CH 149 RX.
I did ALL the wiring myself and used deans plugs..Man they were hard to fine but finally got some. I use the 3 prong deans on the elevators and ailerons.

This was my first ARF 40% and I tell you I have learned a lot. Plus thanks to Rolling Harrier for teaching me..(learning me) a lot! He really showed me a lot of tricks and how he would do it. I take a lot of stock in that since I watch how dependable his work is on his.

Nevertheless, what a big help he was! If it wasn't for him I would have probably made a lot of mistakes! So I have learned a lot though building this plane.

So hobby money providing...next time it won't take as long and everything will go a lot smoother and faster!

LOL I mean I have a mess down there! tools everywhere, scrap..etc..A building shop! I have also learned how to set up my building tables, where to keep tools, glue and all supplies etc... It was a BIG learning experience in more ways than one. It was just not building the plane~! If you know what I mean!

Ok I will have some finished pictures coming up later and I will be ready for a trim flight next weekend...However, I promised Tank I would help out during the IMAC contest next weekend in Salem at the Propbusters, so it will be weekend after next before I do a trim flight. This gives me more time to clean up the trailer and get it ready for the J'TEC.

More later
