Ever sold or crashed a plane and wished you could have it back. I was thinking about it today and found myself wishing I hadn't been such a builder and seller of planes. Of course I would have 300 planes now! Anyway, has there ever been a plane you gave away/sold/crashed you wish you could have back but for one reason or another you can't? I'll start it off. I found myself wishing today that I hadn't sold my kangke F3A/40 back in 2002 (see pic). I really loved that plane. Has an OS 70 FS 2 on it and it was my first precision plane. I thought about buying another one for nostalgia sake, but guess what.... they don't sell it anymore! DRAT!!! So, tell us about your planes! Dave |

32% 3W 330. BADDASS plane!!!!!!!!!! By todays standards, I would quite possibly have the new 3W 85 on mufflers, of course, in it today!!! I wish I had pics of my 32%, after I refinished it. It was posted here in the swap shop, last year some time.

In my case, it would be this 40% Carden Extra, a builder took it for some cosmetic repairs and ended up buying it.

35% Radiocraft Extra ARC powered by a 3W 100TOC. I wasn't ready for the plane when I owned it. Wish I had it back now. Sadly, It was shot down not long after I sold it. WOT at about a 45 degree angle. |

Here's another one I absolutely loved... but CRASHED!!! It's a 24% Colombo Anderson Extra 300L w/OS 160FX. Planted this one into the bank behind me in the picture upon landing. Had a great time with this one. Built it overseas while stationed on Okinawa (East China Sea in the background).

For me, it is more nostalgia. I would like to have the H-Ray that was my first decent RC plane, and the Sportster Bipe that got me back into RC a few years ago. Neither plane was anything like what I have now but I enjoyed both. The H-Ray was rebuilt many times and flew until the engine was just about worn out. I still had the wing up until about 5 years ago and forgot to take it when I moved. The Sportster Bipe I bought used and fought with it many times. I finally found that the bottom wing had been broken and not repaired correctly. It has a bad twist that I didn't find for a couple of weeks. By the time I figured out what the problem was I was tired of fighting the problem and trashed the airframe.

I had a Jim Kimbro Deception that only lasted three flights due to a radio failure. I was flying the "Turnaround" pattern in 1988 when the radio went nuts. Surfaces were flapping, the throttle was swinging from wide open to idle, the gear was going up and down. This was back in the day when we flew our pattern planes near Mach 1 and that is what it was doing when it went in, almost a mile away from the runway. I still have the Webra Speed .61. Sigh! The pic below, shows Jim and his new design around 1980.

I grew up at the field with Pop in late 60's and 70's.. I wish I could have every plane back that spectacularly crashed...but then the memories would not be that precious. Once I got back in to the hobby and started flying gassers my Pop and his flying buddy threw a scratch built 10-300 at me. They flew it with an underpowered Quadra, got scared and hung it. So, "Put a bigger motor in it Mikey, you can fly it!!" , they told me. I put a lighened up G-62 on it....flew it ten times, and spun it in on an approach after doing the newbie mistake of chopping power on final turn. My Pop and his friend signed the date on every piece as they worked and cut it out...some on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day 95 and New Years Eve of 96...the last year my Pop built. I would give a testicle to have it back. Really. I was shattered that I whacked a masterpiece built by my Pop. I know that if you get sentimental about a model you set yourself up for heartache, so I only fly one of my Pop's models still. A 25yr + old Bud Nosen Giant Big Stik that all his friends flew, so it get regular stick time still. That 10-300 ....it's pieces are stored for a re-birth someday...when I get good with the scroll saw. |
