Default How To Roll Like Leseberg

Okay,
I am learning how to do the fast rolls, and I have found out two things and want to ask you guys, and Beavis.

Do you use 3D rate elevator and rudder? I know when I use 3D rate elevator and rudder, I dont have to move the sticks as far as low rates, thus allowing me to roll faster, but at the expense of touchiness.

If I use low rates, I have to move the sticks farther, which lessens my roll rate, but it isnt as touchy.

What do you guys do? Or maybe Beavis can give us some tips?

Thanks!!
Seth

If you have triple rates then you would just use the middle rate and turn the aileron deflection up or down as much as you would want.

You want a third rate for 3d ailerons and low elevator and rudder. That's how I do it.

I have the throws maxxed out on everything on my third rate. Just a little more expo than normal on the elevator and rudder, i move the elevator and rudder probobly 1/16"-1/8" if you would measure at the top of the stick.

I pesronally use full 3d rates with expo. I use this throughout my flight but that is a different story. I would say the less you have to move the sticks the fast you can go. I know i can keep up to full aileron deflection at full power on my QQ but i dont know if i could if i had to move half way to the stop.

I can tell you Mark only flys with 2 rates. One setup for pattern and the other for 3d. On his 3d setup the ailerons are maxed out and the elevator is around 40 degress. Run more expo on 3d rates and try to get the same feel around center stick when you switch from pattern to 3 d and this should help.

I believe the intent is to more or less bury the ailerons and do rollers as fast as possible. In this case expo on the ailerons isnt going to do anything.

max out your surfaces and don't move the elevators and rudders too much. if you have to move the sticks too much you won't be able to keep up with the roll rate.
