A little over a year ago I was talking to my good friend Wayne Mathews at the 2006 JR Challenge. He was hinting around about a new plane for the 07 season. Anyone that flies IMAC and knows Wayne knows that his "Team Jamaica" 41% Super Extra is always present in the SE Region, The Nats and most of the larger IMAC competitions throughout the US. Wayne is one of the guys that this hobby is very lucky to have. He is on the IMAC Sequence committee, helps with Nats and own his own Embroidery business Sewbusy He's just one of those guys that does it all and can always be counted on. Near the end of the 2006 season Wayne told me that his new plane for '07 was going to be a Prototype Yak 55SP from AeroTech. I was immediately intrigued because I love the way that plane looks and there really isnt any built-up ones large enough to be competitive in Unlimited IMAC. Joe Cutright and Wayne started building this plane last winter and posted this build thread here on Flying Giants. Aerotech 118" YAK 55SP Prototype (Build) Wayne and I talked a lot while the plane was being built and I could tell he was really excited to get it finished. Time came to fly it a few weeks ago and after a little trimming and adjusting Wayne says he feels really locked in to the model. He says the plane has about 40 flights on it now and he is practicing as much as he can between work and family duties. I am really happy to see Wayne excited about this new plane but not so happy that he says he's gonna kick my butt at the Nats with it...

Hello, Thanks for the very nice write up. When Joe and Wayne approached me on this last Aug. I thought ok we can do this. Having Wayne and Joe do the prototype was a great help to get the plane out to market and it seems Wayne is pleased with the results. So were now into doing our runs of kits for June and the response is amazing. Thanks you guys again and I look forward to seeing all at Joe Nall. Take Care John www.aerotech-rcmodels.com |
