Default Need help deciding

Hello guys,

I am having a hard time deciding between a 3w yak and a 3.3m comp arf yak. Which one would you recommend?? Going with a 3w 157cs engine ?? This would mostly be for 3d, hovering down low and torque rolling mostly . Appreciate your help, thanks

The 3w Yak is going to be more of a hot rod style compared to the comp arf. The 3w is faster, lighter, quicker movements, and better power to weight. The comp arf is bigger plane and has a lot of wing area so it still floats nice.
I say the 3w is a better competition style of plane.

Watching Snap with his 3.3 Yak... it flys great.. but the 150 series motors are not BALISTIC in that plane.
Its SOO big it may do better with the new 170 size DA or 3W.

He's not running a 150 series......he's running the 157. That's a BA motor!

Thanks guys for the replies,

I was looking into getting the 3w 170 engine, but would it fit in a 3w yak, wildhare extra ? I dont want to get an engine that I would be stuck with that only fits the 3.3 yak.

As for the 3.3 comp arf yak, would you say it hovers and torque rolls easier than the 3w yak ? I currently have a comp arf 2.6 yak and its amazing, but really want to go bigger. Guys with 3w yaks, can I see the schemes that you have on your planes. I like the runner scheme but ive seen it on almost all 3w yaks. If I go with the comp arf yak i ll probably get it all white and do a custom spray job on it.

It all depends on what you want to do with them. If you like the BADASS factor of a huge plane that excells in slow 3D and stall conditions the 3.3 Yak would probably be your winner. If you want an awesome freestyle plane that flies in more of a 'spirited' manner the 3W is going to do really good for you. It obviously comes down to what you wanted to do with the plane. A buddy of mine has a 3.3 and I've probably seen a hundred or so flights (out of the hundreds) that he has put on his and it is a super stable plane that is an attention whore. The 3.3 really needs a piped 170 or a 200/210 on it to be power happy while the 3W would be the happier plane with a 157-170.

Thanks !!

I think I ve decided and will put in an order soon, for a 3.3 yak all white and a 3w 170.

Just one last question, say in the future i would like to get a wildhare 40% or a 40% carden edge, would this 3w 170 fit in them like the 3w 157 ? Thanks

My understanding is the 170 has the same physical dimensions as the 157. Fits in the same hole and even weighs the same from memory.

I'm sure you wont have any issues fitting it to any 40% Extra or similar design.

Cool!! What kind of pipes are you going to run on it?

Keep us posted on your progress with it. Soon Mark Trent is going to start building his new C-ARF Pitts Python and 3.3 Yak. That will be something interesting to follow too! Hopefully he'll do build threads again on them. He is doing 170's in them on Grevees pipes
