Lightbulb Hello Everyone - Need some guidance for Novice to Intermediate Flyer Transition

Hi! I hit across this great site and see bunch of people sharing the same hobby. I am in this hobby for last 10 months. I fly a high wing trainer and i am comfortable in regular circuits and basic flying. Can someone help me understand what should i do next (basic aerobats etc) before i move to a low winger?

Thanks,
RC-Iq

lol just kidding. I'd get comfortable with the plane in different attitudes. learn the stick movements to do some rolls so the stick imputs get ingrained into your subconscious. I'd even fly inverted and get comfortable. Get a simulator--you'll find that if you can fly it on the sim you'll be able to fly the real thing.

master the rudder.
I Agree, good advice.. Four years flying, and still an apprentice in that department.

I used to do flights with my trainer where I wouldn't touch the ailerons.....

and control it that way....

Loops and rolls are a good thing too..

Loops, maybe rolls....trainer. Also try figure 8's. Make sure you can do your circuits in both directions. I've seen way too many new pilots get used to flying one direction and then start flying the wrong way when the wind changes cause they can't fly the other direction. And the best thing to make sure you are really, really comfortable doing is taking off and landing. A fun one to try (back from UAV instructing) is once you are comfortable with landings is to take the plane up to a good height and pull the power back to idle. Then make a "perfect" landing right in front of you. This will get you prepared for those not so great motor running days.

Cool Re: Hello Everyone - Need some guidance for Novice to Intermediate Flyer Transition

Hey RC-Iq..........Best advice is wear that Trainer out....patch the cracks, tears and whatever needs fixin and when you have completed that task you'll be ready to move up to a low-winger.....like maybe a Sig 4 Star .60 size. Just stay focused....

Dude, get a sim and you won't need an 'intermediate plane'. learn to fly a funtana, or a yak, or extra or something WELL on the sim. if you get your hands on a sportster after that you'll get bored

In fact, get a funtana or a showtime 90. they're no more expensive than a sportster and are a breeze to fly and to land on low rates. they'll float in like a trainer. then you can just increase your rates and start having some fun no, but seriously, a funtana or a showtime 90 can be a perfect introduction into mid-wing aerobatic planes and are a piece of cake to put together and to fly
