I’ve been asked to explain and tell a little about how I got the name “lucky”. So here it is, When I was 12 years old I was diagnosed with a form of muscular dystrophy and was told that I would be lucky to see 19. Within two years I had two surgery’s that my chances of recovery were slim to none, but I came through the unbeatable odds. Years go by with me doing everything they said I shouldn’t or couldn’t do. Graduated from school got married and had a son and worked for several years and was able to retire early due to medical reasons. So we moved to the country were I was introduced to the world of rc airplanes by a family member who was learning to fly. It only took one trip to get hooked. Well after a short time I got into aerobatics( giant scale). My friends that I fly with started to call me lucky. It look like every time something went wrong it always seem to work out. For example, wings breaking, motors coming loose, hatches coming off but staying on until I landed and some close encounters with the ground , plus to date the only planes I have destroyed have been foamys (knock on wood) it goes on and on. As I thought about it and always known, I’ve been lucky, I have a beautiful wife and son and some amazing friends and I’m still here. So I take the name lucky proudly. I would like to thank my wife and son for all of there support and to my friends thanks for all of the help. If it wasn’t for them I couldn’t enjoy this hobby. For those who read this, no madder what life throws or how hard it gets never give up it always could be worse, for we are all lucky for every day we see. Chris ”Lucky”

I recently joined "Radio Active Airshows" where I met Chris who was already on the team. I've only known him for a short time and just spent the weekend with him and the team up at at Andrews AFB (after a 7 hour drive up from Joe Nall!!). He is one of the nicest guys out there, and is one hell of a pilot! He says he is lucky but I think its his friends who are lucky to know such a nice guy. Keep on huckin' Chris!

Chris, I liked your story very much, I myself have been in a chair for 12 years due to an accident from a fall in a tobacco barn that broke my back. Its funny at times to set and look back remembering how it was to be able to walk, how easy and simple some things were that is almost impossible now. There are days that we all have our "pitty parties", get down about something and are a bit depressed over something, its easy to do sometimes. I sometimes get in the mood to go back to the rehab center where i was taken after my accident and visit with the staff and people who took care of me when i was there. It doesnt take long setting and looking around at the people who are there for rehab that i see that are a LOT worse off than I myself am....then things dont seem to be to bad knowing the things I still can go do. No matter what any of us have wrong with us, we always think about and would like to be the way we used to be. I know from my accident, and can honestly say that, I dont think that i would have the relationship with my son today that i do if it hadnt of been for my accident, he is my best lil buddy and I couldnt ask for a better one ! I dont think that we would be doing what we are doing as far as him flying IMAC now if it wouldnt have been for my accident. Its brought a lot of different people into my life that I know i wouldnt have met and are really good friends with now, Mike McConville, Wayne Geffon, Mark Leseberg....i wouldnt have met Max and Biff and Wizzard and Tank....lots of people. It took my life in a different direction and meeting the people I have wouldnt have happened...."everything happens for a reason" they say....yet we still wonder sometimes why, but it isnt for us to question. I admire you for continueing on like you have...and if your anything like me, i live and breath everyday for my son, isnt anything in the world like em and I dont know what i would have done without him ! Keep rollin buddy.....and dont ever give up ! |

Guys you are encouragement to us all. It has always been my philosopy to look for excuses to do something instead of excuses why I cant do it. It is this type of attitude that heros are made of.
