| It will fly!!! | The 2007 Futaba Extreme Flight Championship is just around the corner. Big news the XFC has moved from the Waco field in Troy, Ohio to the AMA site in Muncie, Indiana. On June 15 - 17, the XFC brings the best fixed wing aerobatic pilots and the best rotary wing (helicopter) aerobatic pilots in the world to one place. The competition is unique in that it includes required maneuvers integrated into the freestyle routines. Many of the competitors are members of the FlyingGiants family. Best wishes to all competitors and good luck. This year Futaba has gone all out and will be putting on a great contest, with extras. There will be noon time air shows featuring our own Matt Chapman and Mike Mancuso brought to you by Desert Aircraft. If you have never had the chance to see them perform their unique formation aerobatics, you are missing out. There will also be a hot air balloon mass lift off during the weekend. Just a visit to the AMA site is worth the trip by itself. The AMA site has on site camping on grounds and there are many motels and hotels in Muncie for those that require a real bed. Motels are listed on the XFC site. The AMA site has areas for all aspects of model aviation, including paved runways, CL flying areas, free flight, sailplane and helicopter sites. The AMA has a model aviation museum on site. There is also a large hobby store that borders the grounds. The FlyingGiants will be in attendance bringing back video and still photos.

Having already seen some of the XFC's competitors practice flights, all I can say is this years competition WILL be better than ever. The quality of the talent has increased on both sides, and the heli guys have really taken it to another level. Even more so than I ever remember!!! Some of you who saw the ETOC this year, remember some of the top freestyle pilots and their flights. Now, you can come and see the likes of Gernot, Jason and John and see what they can do with a 35-40%. It's pretty unbelievable! On top of all this, you have a festival complete with amusement rides for the rest of the family. ( As if you had any thought of bringing the wife or girlfriend!) Some come and watch a show unlike you'll see anywhere in the world. Thanks to all of the XFC sponsors who without their support, the XFC would never happen. Most will be at the XFC, so stop by and give them a "thanks"! Frank

We've just finalized admission prices to the XFC with the AMA and Summer Heat Festival. If you show your AMA card at the entrance gate, your CARLOAD will get in for $5.00. Normal pricing for non-AMA members is $20.00/carload. What a deal! Where can you get this kind of event, plus a full scale Air Show and World Class Pilots for that price?? Plan on attending and making some noise for your favorite pilots! Your crowd participation makes a difference this year! The more noise you make for your pilot, the better his score will be. We've added a crowd noise bonus this year for their scoring. Get the picture?? :-) Frank

So sorry not to be able to make it this year. Work is keeping me super busy. I'm flying over 100 hours a month right now trying to move on to another job so I can fly r/c more. I wish all of the contestants the best of luck this year and am really rooting especially for Johnny G. I've alway's loved his style and feel sometimes he's underrated in the judges eyes. Also Animal, Jason, and the rest. Tear it up guy's! Nice plane in the pic too! -Kelly Gerber |
