well it came up in a discussion over the weekend as just how dangerous our hobby is and the damage it can inflict on the human body and everything else - now over time i have collected these pics and post then to remind us all to make sure and the always be aware of the dangers - like me we seem to take it for granted and when it happens then we all stand and say well he should have...................... these pics could even be yours??? please take it for what it is - a staunch reminder of what can realy happen!!!

Holly Crap! Did you take all of these yourself? The worst one has to be the guy missing part of his thumb that will definatly negativly effevt his flying ability.

These are nasty... but I can tell you this... 200+ mph jets are safe ... They are going to start letting jets fly in the playgrounds of day care schools....

I got a hit from the prop when choking the engine then I was like thanks God it was with the choke on if not I will be with out a finger, we have to pay attention to what we are doing and have as much safety as we can, this hobby is fun if you follow the rules of the game

It's a tough thing to look at, but I kinda always think a reminder and a head check is a good thing. Our airplanes are dangerous mofo's - IMO, the more we focus on safety, and remove the complacency, the better. This past month at The Nall during the Friday BBQ, me and a bunch of modelers were chatting about stuff, and the topic of scars came up. The food was set down, and people started rolling up their sleeves and shorts comparing scars. I think everyone has had their own close calls in the past. Use these pics as a reminder if anything - these things are very dangerous toys. Be safe boys. Nasty images for sure, even considering that I just got done watching a CSI Las Vegas marathon this weekend on Spike.

| I spent a week at Walter Reed Medical Hospital when my wife was deployed there 2 years ago, so gore doesn't affect me very much anymore. Regardless, these pictures are good reminders of the inherent danger with our "toys". |

Guys I know this is a PG13 site and naughty words are banned but my old man (Dad) taught me a little thing when I was old enough to understand. He said " Boy !!! never put your fingers where you wouldn't put your Dick" Take it as being crude but think about it. How much does a good welders glove cost??? A whole heap less than a week in hospital -plus the potential loss of a few digits. |

We were B.S.ing at the field at our clubs big bird about safety and starting gassers. One of the guys was telling us he watched a guy get his hand cut off at the wrist before he could do anything. The fellow had used a piece of rope around the tail and attached it to his bumper. He put his choke on and flipped it at wot till it pooped. Unfortunately as he was flipping it he failed to notice the plane was rolling backwards. He took of the choke and gave her another flip. The plane started at wot and leaped forward cutting off his other hand, the one without a glove. After that story we mandated a helper be used to start any plane. I have seen a similar incident where a tail stake was used with a helper. The helper was talking to someone and not paying attention as the plane rolled back during choking. Lucky for the pilot it came forward 6 inches when it started. Personally I always use a stick and and a strap over the stabs under the wings then over the fuse on my 27%. I am getting my first big gasser this week and I will NOT be starting it in the pits. I will continue to us the strap but I will use a helper if available and wheel chocks if there is not. My question is: What is the best way to hold a plane while it is being started? When I help someone with a large plane I put one leg against the stab, one against the wing (stop roll back) and a hand on the LE of the wing. Is there a better method?
