Default Smoke ON during AFPD... HELP....

OK my AFPD is pretty new and ever since i installed it and turned the smoke on, the planes would slow down, freeze but still work. It will be in a S L O W motion type.

Does that happen to you?

Happens to me also, You need a VERY high frame rate if you want to use the smoke

Same here, it slows down but still runs at about 30 FPS. It runs at around 60 or more for me with no smoke.

Tony
I have a very nice vid card in my computer and it runs the AFPD between 250-300 FPS but when I turn on the smoke it still slows the frame rate way down especially when I'm in close, so I leave the smoke off.

Same here... getting about 200 FPS until I turn smoke on, then drops to about 20 FPS. Its much worse if I am hovering in close and the smoke accumulates.
It's not too bad when you are flying around.

Yea same with me durring the hovering which i think its the coolest part to use the smoke on. It gets worst when your in a hover or slow flight, but not that bad while flying around fast.

anyone try the sim with the top of the line video cards(what are you using). You would think this problem would be eliminated... Just wondering, I have a Gforce 5700LE and am getting over 130FPS. With smoke less than 30. Is it worth the extra $ for a better card? Just for the smoke.....I would love to use it in real time!!!

P4 3.6 GHZ

WOW~! with that setup you should be getting over 100fps with smoke. I know that you can run some awesome games with your video card ( fog, smoke, explosions etc.etc.) so it must just be something within the AFPD that is prematurely bogging down our cards, Time for an upgrade Boys....

yes, its def. a problem with the graphics engine in afpd. heres my set up....

pent 4 3.2 ghz
2 gig ram
Radeon x850 xt pe 256 mb

i get around 500-800 fps just flying around but as soon as i start hovering with smoke it drops to about 40.

I can run Half Life 2 and DOD:Source on max settings and get a good 60 fps avg and these games are the biggest recource killers out there for games especailly with things like HDR rendering and such.
So it def. has to be a big problem with the graphics engine in afpd that is eating up the resouces of our comps when the smoke builds up.
