| Sleepy's step and fetch ![]() | Written by MIKE ROHREN Happy fliers and great commeraderie were showcased at this year’s Albuquerque IMAC. Although there were not as many as last year, every thing was above any standards I have seen. The prize pool was worth $4000 and at the end of the comp they were given away to every pilot by picking names. So every pilot got TWO prize pots. This was courtesy of Outwest Hobbies shop that also supplied delicious breakfast burritos and a lunch too big for me to even finish, which was very thoughtful and considerate of the hobby shop owner. The action started at 8:00 Saturday morning. First, we held a pilot meeting and drilled in the rules. Every one at the comp made flying in it smooth and very efficient. I believe the most people were in basic and they had their own side of the runway and the higher classes had another. In advanced and basic, competition was fierce and the winners definitely earned it. The Aeroworks 35% 260 was the most popular plane there by far. Comp-arfs were also popular. Unfortunately, only one unlimited pilot flew so there was not any competition in that department but the man still flew for our entertainment. In sportsman, there was only me and one other man, but we still competed very well. The comp was run by two top notch men, Dave Pattison and Dave Anderson (at the end of the comp Anderson made sure no one left without a flying giants sticker). Both were eager to help out and supported the guys just learning. This was my first IMAC comp and Dave was working his butt off to call for every one. My first flight he rushed from one flight to mine to help me through it. I cannot thank him enough for his support and helping me get rolling. Dean Bird was also a great contributor in the fact that he judged none-stop. All of the judges were very nice and made the comp go smoothly. I will get the results as soon as possible from Dave. I got as many pics as I could but some did not come out. All I can say are great things about this comp and if you did not make it out this year make sure you do next time because you are truly missing out!!! There is another comp in August so you can redeem yourself of the points! Special thanks to Dave Anderson A.K.A Superdave. Also great thanks to Outwest Hobbies for the food and the pile of stuff given. Thanks for the great event. More photos soon! DUMMY TORO DELETED THEM ACCIDENTLY.... DOH !
