Default BUYING A HEADSET

I have deffinately outdone my share of barrowing when it comes to headsets at the local flight school. Some have been way to tight, some have odd mics but really, if they are not too tight pressing on your head I am alright.

My instructor has this really nice pale green $350 dollar one, it is a standard brand and he says they give you a lifetime warranty. He says I should really invest in something like that.

But if I can get in to some of the colleges I want to go to, and I will, (as long as I dont get into some felony or some other outlandish circumstance) I will not be flying in college. Maybe I will duble major and take some area that has to do with flight but thats no flying for 4 years so why do I want to spend $350.

I am doing my private because I love flying first, secondly, because it would look good for a college application, and thirdly, because if I can, I would love to find time to go on to IFR.

What kind of head set should I get? Are they cheaper on the internet? Is a warranty a good idea? Is one brand like the NIKE of the shoe industry; I see all these pale green ones everywhere, are they all the same brand?

Thanks.

David Clark is the manufacturer and is the Desert Aircraft of headsets.

Buy one and you will never regret it.

Find it at Sporty's Pilot Shop.

Get a Sennheiser Headset. Either the HMEC 25 or the HMEC 45. A lot of money, but very light and noise cancelling as well. Doesn't feel like a "C" clamp on your head after while either. Here's a link to check them out: http://www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/...ennheiser.html There are other Sennheiser sets you can check as well. I've had my HMEC-25 for 5 years, and no problems.

Yeah. See the above post. Dave Clarks weigh a ton. They hurt your head. Three years wearing one flying for commuters. Never again. Sorry.....

David Clarks all the way. Well worth the investment. I've got a pair of H10-30's that are as old as I am and work marvelously. No discomfort at all, even during long cross countries.

Great customer service also, light, GREAT noise cancelling, no 'clamping'. Work great in the King Air and the Warbird, two vastly different enviroments.

light green eh? That is a David Clark.
I have a couple of them and the best for me is the H10-30.
They have gel filled ear covers and a great pad at the top. The boom is easily adjustable as well.

There are others that cancel noise, and weigh less no doubt, but as posted above, they are the DA of headsets.

This pic is a good one for several reasons....
Wife is asleep in the shot and if she saw this she would be upset....hahahahaha.
This shows two of my David Clark headsets. My daughter (asleep also) has one too....and....last but not least....The hat on my head is Flying Giants.
GOOD TIMES.

Bose...NO...David Clark...NO...Heavy, tight....Bose over rated and the ANR will not keep up with loud cockpits...
The Sennheiser are the way to go. Just bought 2 sets...VERY happy with them. Keep in mind as well, if it matters to you, the Sennheiser are made in the USA.
Bose charge you a premium and then hit you for added accessories needed for the ANR.
Used the Sennh. for a 10 hour 17 minute flight in a Cessna 140 and never knew I had them on. No way you could say that with DC's...EVER! Bose are light, but too expensve and not up to the noise...
Just my 2c....
Matt..

ps..one more thing..if you forget to turn the Sh off, they turn off after a few minets...also, if the ANR does fail on the SH, the head sets still work as a normal headset, not so the Bose...no protection at all with a dead battery.

I've had my Dave Clarks for longer than I can remember. My boom mic is supported by a double wire frame off the ear piece. These are OLD, people! They are light and comfortable. They work and cancel out background noise so I have no complaints. I do like the "American made" aspect that Matt speaks of but mine are paid for and the only thing lacking at this point is that I don't have the Champ OR the Pitts anymore to use them in! Keep your nose up in the turns............
