Contest Report for Livermore Summer IMAC Challengd 2007 The contest was held on June 23rd & 24th at the East Bay Radio Controllers in Livermore CA.. The weather cooperated with mild winds and pleasant temperatures. This event ended up being somewhat small at only 17 pilots. Due to the relatively larger Basic and Sportsman classes, as CD, I decided to try to run a sort of IMAC clinic with the judges being able to talk to the pilots about how to make improvements after they flew their round. From the positive comments I got, I think the pilots really liked it. Although this would never work in a larger event, we had plenty of time to take some extra time and really help out our true “base” of IMAC pilots. For this, I owe thanks to all the judges that participated – I know it was spur-of-the-moment… This is the first IMAC contest at Livermore where the pilots had to contend with a “hard” flight boundary on the left side of the box. Actually the field’s property limit coincides with the actual legal IMAC box limit but to most pilots, it’s very close-in. The club stipulated we have a person at the boundary to keep the planes in check and that actually worked quite well. Club VP Bob Donleavy was a constant presence on the flight line while son Richard Donleavy was stationed at the no-fly edge marker with his Nextel. After a demo of the limit we encouraged the pilots to perform a “pull-up” check with coaching so each could get an idea what the plane looked like in that close. I’m very happy to say all the pilots were extremely cooperative and I know that EBRC was very pleased with the results. Both Bob and Rich gave up their weekend to perform their vital function and we literally couldn’t have held the event without their help. My co-Cd of record was Kip Garvey and I’d like to especially thank him for giving up both days just to come out and help. Ken Gregory also arrived Sunday to judge and his help was welcome. My partner Joe provided a couple gallons of hot coffee for us and also spent much of the time judging as did all the Unlimited and Intermediate pilots. Thanks to all of you that made this event a small but great one.
