Hi all... well, it happened somehow. I have my glasses on a "string" or whatever you call these things that hang around your neck. I had them off/hanging and glued something quickly. Well, today, I noticed a dot that would not wipe off. I knew right away.... thin ca. They are expensive Raybans and have a glass lens with blue iridium for anti glare. The spec is very small (.020"), but it is smack in the middle of where it needs NOT to be! Never fails ehh? The lens is NOT polycarbonate. I was thinking maybe a wooden popsickle stick and try to scrape it off. I don't know how well CA sticks to smooth glass. I really don't want to put chemicals on it because of the iridium. Can somebody bail me out? A new lens is $100! Yikes... that;s half the cost of the whole set of glasses..... thanks...

There is a reason that they make CA remover or debonder. Go to the hobby store, or horizonhobby.com and get some debonder. Squirt it on there and start rubbing and it should be off in a couple of seconds. No need to worry. It takes the ca off as easily as you can imagine.

MEK might work...... Seriously now, I don't know what this will do to the coating, but run hot water over it. This will soften it up. That's the only way I've gotten some tough stuff up. It unstuck a tractor strength loctite screw for me........ 50% |

Debonder is basically acetone and it will work. On a thick glob it will take a while as it softens just the top layer. Just keep using fresh paper towels and keep lots of acetone on it. As far as damaging the lenses, if it does you had to replace it anyway.

Maybe some extremely careful work with the edge of something hard, or even a very steady razor? I know my building board is glass and as soon as you get a corner off, the whole spot comes. The adhesives dont stick well to a hard smooth surface. |
