Default Fireworks+plane

So im flying a demo for a club this weekend, and i thought since its a holiday weekend kind of deal i'd try adding a little something to my flight. Im going to the fireworks store to buy a few of those huge smoke bombs, that are in a probably 1 inch wide cylinder about 6 inches tall, and stick it on the wingtips and light them before flight. any ideas on how to hold this to the plane? will it work well? any input would be nice

I'd tie it to a string and put a little eye hook in the wingtip.

duct tape it. That's what another FG member did, but he did it to the landing gear. Makes pretty good smoke.

For the wingtip, I'd probably use some aluminum inbetween the wing and smoke bomb.

I would try the landing gear as the mount, because those smoke bombs get pretty hot

I hate to be the resident jerk, but if your club is an AMA club, this is outside the Safety Code:

Exceptions include Free Flight fuses or devices that burn producing smoke and are securely attached to the model aircraft during flight. Rocket

I have shot fireworks of my 30% yak countless times. Roman Candles, Smoke bombs, I even duct taped some PVC pipes to the wingtips and shot bottle rockets out of them.

All this is super fun and very easy but you have to remember that just about every firework has a place on it that is well... on fire. No wonder they are so appropriately named.

If you are going to do smoke bombs they will work great no matter how you mount them. But some (some) can get very hot around the center. I laid down a couple pieces of duct tape over the top of my covering and then put the smoke bombs on top of that. Some kind of metal would be good but that conducts heat well.

Oh and smoke bombs shoot fire out of the nozzle where the smoke comes out. You can stick a match next to the smoke outlet and it will catch fire and the smoke is very very hot up to a couple feet away from the nozzle so if you stick it on your landing gear you are going to melt the tail of the airplane.

Hope it works well.
