Since I've installed my new lipo batteries into my new plane, is it highly recommended that they be removed for re-charging. I see that they have come out with lipo battery charging bags and this has caught my attention to some degree. I sure would not want my high dollar plane to catch fire while charging these types of batteries. What is your guys thoughts about this! Thanks Tony Last edited by hudsont62; 07-11-2007 at 07:10 PM. |

I charge lipos in a fireproof box, but I'm guilty of charging my Fromecos in the airplane even though the warnings and safety precautions on Fromecos website state; "7. Never Charge a cell/pack in a model, a hot pack may ignite wood, foam or plastic" Have never seen anyone at the events I've been to, remove Lithium Ion Packs from their plane to charge....Not trying to justify here, just my observations. |

That's what I've been seeing myself when any charging takes places at the field, no one seems to be removing their battery packs. I guess maybe some don't have lots of dough invested in their aircraft. But I believe I will be removing mine just to be safe. Thanks for your opinions so far..... Tony |

if ion's get hot enough to lite you are doin something really bad to them, but any battery can short out.

Hello Tony, What batteries did you get and what charger are you using to charge them. When using Li-Po it is important that you mount them somewhere in your plane that you can always visually see them. If you don't over charge them or discharge them below their discharge recommended voltage, your cells should last a long time and don't need much more extra attention. However it is an excellent idea to charge them outside your plane, I personally do not do that but my charge rate is low and I will make sure to check them when I think the charge is near end or should be over by then. Thank you, Reza |

I purchased the 4300mah 4 cell -7.4 volt receiver battery and the 2150mah 2 cell 7.4 volt for the ignition with regulators on both. I'll be charging them with my Duralite 2 port charger. One thing I would like to know, once the charging is complete how soon should they be dis-connected from the charger, is it immediately. Or, what is the safe zone on dis=connecting them in a timely manner.

You can leave them on the charger for extra couple of hours no problem but don't leave them overnight or for days. Thank you, Reza

Please don't shoot me, but has anybody ever think to simply use NmHd , a bit smaller, and simply recharge them at the field... Those Lipos are so bloody delicate, and dangerous compared to good old NmHd's... Again, its the weight difference you have to look at..... No regulators, no special chargers, no baby sitters to watch the charging process, no metal box, no need to trash the batteries if you forget the switch on, and get this , cheaper also....... OK I have vented for the day .... ![]() Roger
