A mate at our club has a Bad Boy V2 with a super tigre 51. Flys well but is lacking in power (Possibly a motor issue) Aerofundan has an awesome vid on this site of the same plane with a YS (I think) in it. Top flying plane. Would love one myself

Default Re: Profiles Down Under

Our club has a growing number of profile fliers.

My profile collection currently consists of :

1 x Katana P (cost NZ$120 about 3 years ago)
1 x Katana 70 V2 (cost NZ$199 a year ago)
1 x GeeBee 46 (cost $80 a couple of years back)
1 x Mojo 60 (under US$100 as a kit)
1 x Mojo 40 (under US$80 as a kit)
1 x Tango 50 (NZ$99 about 3 years ago)
1 x Katana 46 V2 (not yet assembled) (NZ$129 last week)

and soon I will by laying out cash for a MoAss Mojo 60 and a Mojo40 ARF.

And other members are flying a mix of Katana 70s and GeeBee 46 profiles.

Flying circles gets real boring after a while so it's easy to talk those who haven't seen a profile fly *properly* before into buying one. And, once you've bought your first *real* 3D-capable profile (we're not talking Sig Fazers here), it's hard to stop buying more :-)

There have been a lot of Kat46V2 and Kat70V2s listing on our local auction site (TradeMe) but they want way too much -- around NZ$250 plus freight. Hell, we're talking cheap Chinese profiles here -- the maximum price most folks will pay for a Katana 46/70 V2 is around ther $130-$150 mark.

There are just too many other cheap Chinese fatty ARFs (Mustangs, Caps, Extras, Yaks, etc) that sell for NZ$160-$199 for people to consider an equivalently priced profile to be good value -- after all, there's less wood and it's profile for goodness sake! :-)

Although, having said that, if you're really serious about 3D profiles you can lay down a lot of money on such a bird. My Mojo 60 has a Saito 100 up front and a fist-full of coreless digital servos onboard. Its total value is well over NZ$1,100 -- but worth every cent.

My Katana P is just a hack now. It's the plane I fly when conditions mean there's a good chance of dorking it -- or if I just feel like doing something stupid. I can replace it for $129 so there's no sphincter tightening when I'm doing stupid stuff right down on the deck.

It's worth noting that although you may have the "sole" NZ?Aus agency for TMPRo, there are still lots of other folks bring the Kats and Extra 260P into NZ and selling them. I wonder where they're getting them? :-)

Examples:

Kat 70 V2 from Extreme RC

Kat 70 V2 on TradeMe

Note that both of these are overpriced -- most of the auctioned Kats get passed in and don't reach reserve or get "bought now".

As I say, to be a viable product in NZ, a profile has to sell in the NZ$130-$150 band. TopRC's were $129 incl freight and that's why an entire shipment sold out in just one day.

Heres a piccy of my Fusion! awesome plane, doesnt restrict you to just 3D but has plenty of freestyle capability. Must get around to repairing it, was doing some stationary high alpha knife edge into the wind when it started to drop and I was a little slow on the throttle (been flying the gassers too much! ). Ripped the rudder hinges, thats all!! tough little plane as well!!

And heres a quick vid, rainy day hucking! http://www.flyinggiants.com/gallery/...user=8308&sl=d
