Default Snap Rolls... I've been wrong all this time..

Please don't flame me... but I have always used ailerons with the rudder when I snap roll. I always pitched first, then snapped. I never realized that it is only elevator first, then rudder. I just read an article by Scott Stoops (I like and respect his articles a lot) and learned this. Who else has been using ailerons? Thanks.

you mean to tell me that all this time I have been doing it wrong?
I too use all three elevator ailerons and rudder to do my snaps, i always thought that you used the ailerons to help the plane roll better, well I'll be jiggered. learn something new every day around here, I will try this the next time I fly

Ok I could be totally wrong here, but I have NEVER seen anyone flying precision snap an airplane with no aileron. True, many airplanes will snap this way, but it's typical in RC flying to use aileron in the snap. Using little to no aileron sounds more like a full-scale snap...

Yeah guys, If you watch any pro do a snap roll they use ailerons. The snaps would be slopy and slow without them. You were right before hand.

Agreed. Good luck flying a snap like that in IMAC and not getting a 2 heh. It works good for full scale sport aerobatics, not so well in competition aerobatics. There is no rule that you can't use ailerons, just that you have to have a noticeable break to signify an accelerated stall into the snap (a true snap, not just an aileron roll).

I tried this method a few times on models and it typically ends up being a barrel-ish roll and losing lots of energy. So I cheat and use ailerons heh.

You are right. A full scale snap uses rudder and elevator (yes I've flown full scale). Models just don't wrap up good without the ailerons.

Read further in the article and he does mention that some planes will snap better with aileron input and of course planes will differ.

For the most part I will agree that for RC scale aerobatic, planes ailerons help the snap. However, some high wing RC planes actually snap better without ailerons. This is just personal experience, and might not apply to others. LOL
