HI folks , not sure if this has been done but i got into a conversation today that went on for ever.. whats better a mono or a bipe??? they both seem to have pros and cons, so to start it off right now i fly mono, but i would rather have a bipe for the airshow lines and smooth flight.. so which is better... keep it clean this could get ugly.... mike

I prefer mono planes for there agility and low drag flight characteristics. They may not harrier as well but that is a sacrifice i am willing to make.

can you add a "Both" option? Mono's for IMAC, bipes have alot of inertia with both wings, makes snaps harder to not over-rotate. Mono's to me are better looking in rolling manuevers, but bipes look cooler in hammerheads and tumbles, but do they DO them better? dunno, depends on the bipe. Look at a 50% challenger, and then H9's 46% ultimate, 2 entirely different airframes, so they can fly as different to each other as mono's can (compare a yak to a J3 cub

You want a show plane? Get a bipe. You want performance? Get a mono. Look at the ratio of bipes versus monos on big contests. If it wasn't for Chip, there would be none.

That may change now that the Python is out. Bipes need to be checked for incidence all the time with the flying wires or cabanes that hold them in place. |

I think go with what are you comfortable with, i fly both bipe as well as mono, Chip won the TOC 2002 with his ultimate, most of the people thought of bipe in IMAC cant win but its proven you can... F3A people fly biplane last f3a world championship "ONDA" from japan placed 3rd. So i vote for bipe, that dosent mean mono planes are bad they are good toooo, it all depends what you fly.... and how you feeel..., biplanes give you extra time to think before you make a move helps you correct you sequences. My final words it all depends upon the pilot skills & experience how he flies and what what kind of plane is comfortable with.... |

My two cents on the issue.. Monoplanes are easier to trim and set up....dealing with the extra wing during decalouge can be a bear??? But hey - Chip Hyde kicked ars for several years at the TOC level.....with a few Godfrey Ultimate designs. I had a 33% Godfrey Ultimate that I loved .. First Giant scale that actually knife edge looped... Ronster |

hmmm. 4 bipes hanging in the shop, 1 extra, guess the bipes have it, 4 to 1. Just my personal preference. I prefer the bipes over monoplanes simply because they aren't monoplanes! They fly 'differently' than their monowinged cousins, more constant speed, and are usually a great crowd pleaser. After all, I know I get pretty tired seeing the same old yaks, edges, extras, etc at the field. I always pay attention when somebody breaks out a second set of wings! ... and now with the big Pythons out there, well, lets just say I think things are going to get 'interesting'! |
