Default Saito .82/3D airframe suggestion

DOh! Just totalled my Funtana S 40(Hangar 9) yesterday flying in the wind. Figures I'd run it out of fuel 40' off the deck, at the end of the runway, heading down-wind, towards the trees. This plane was my faithful 3D learning tool with over 225hrs. on it before "the end". I learned pretty much every trick in the book with this plane. I still like the Funtana but wouldn't mind a change of flavor. Anybody have any suggestions for a good match to my surviving Saito .82. Luckily this engine came out with zero defects, didn't even have any prop damage. I'm not a big fan of profiles, although I'd consider one. Definitely prefer sport scale 3Ders. Any suggestions you guys have would be much appreciated. Thanks. Justin/Tri County RC Flyers Down in Savannah, GA.

Lightbulb Re: U-Can-Do or Flip 3D for .82 Saito

I had a 40 sized U-Can-Do with a Saito .72 and it was just a hair underpowered but other than that was a GREAT little 3D airplane.
I always thought that the .82 would be the perfect powerplant for it.
Be sure to use the 30% CoolPower Heli fuel and an OS type "F" plug.
Choose a prop with a low pitch, like 4, for doing hovering stuff.

OR, a Flip 3D from Kyosho.
We had a Saito .91 in ours and it was WAY overpowered but ALOT of fun!
The .82 would be good on that too I would think.

Chris ( Cspaced ) has an OS .91 I think in his Ucan Do .40 size. His flies better than mine with a Saito 82. I think mine is too light on account of the lithium batteries I use.

Thanks alot for the input guys. The Ucan do isn't too shabby and the Showtime is nice also. I think i gotta check out those Fliton planes though. Sounds pretty cool, as long as they're light enough. I also just saw Sebastiano Sylvestri has his Sebart Katana 50E and a Yak 50E with optional glow mount conversions, anybody check these out yet? A little more expensive, $270 w/ glow conv., but "very nice, High five." Love to hear about other possibilities. Keep em comin if ya got any.

The Inspire is freaking awesome. Try to run a Perry pump and put the tank under the wing where they recommend (this is how I've got it, with a 55AX). The 82 will be perfect.

The landing gear and covering are crap, but I don't think you can find a better flying airplane in that size.

How does the .55 AX do on the Inspire?

Justin i would suggest the FuntanaX 50 hands down. I also flew the 50 Showtime no comparison. I also have a Saito .82GK installed in my FuntanaX,also the flip is also a good plane i had one with a OS 50sx in it that also flew well but Kyosho uses cheap covering that does not hold up well also hard to see with the transparent covering!!!(the pic is the 90 size showtime not the 50.my buddy has the 50 size showtime)

I think it's perfect. I'm running it with a 12.25 x 3.75 APC prop and it will pull out of a hover, not rocket, but it's definitely plenty of power. It balanced perfectly. I've got some baffling in the cowl to keep it cool, and it works very well (before I put this in it sagged all the time. Now it will hover all day in hot weather without complaint). I run a Perry VP-30 pump so that I can keep the tank under the wing where they want it (the one that uses crankcase pressure) and have only had one deadstick, when I forgot to fuel it. I've also found that it NEEDS an OS F plug to run inverted. It won't work at all with an 8, and it quits randomly with an Enya A3. The F plug is perfect, it's heavy enough to stay hot. The needle valve is easy to set, but very touchy, be careful with it. One click is equivelant to about a quarter turn on another motor.

It's also incredibly easy to start. I fuel it, then go to full throttle and flip it over ten times. Then I go to idle, put the igniter on, and snap the spinner backwards with my thumb and forefinger. Most of the time it fires and kicks forward into idle. Sometimes I need to use a chicken stick to flip it over a couple times, and on a bad day I break out the electric starter. Make sure you break it in properly (like they say in the manual, not slobberingly rich the whole time) and you'll have a great motor.
