Here in the Ohio/PA area there are a bunch of us who make an effort to fly together, and attend the same events, sharing knowledge (well , ok.. I mainly sponge knowledge, not sure anyone is learning anything from me!) and generally having a good time. "Old Crusty RC Pilots". (OCRCP) Seems like every group needs a acronym. Yesterday we put together a little fly-in and invited a few of the GANG to come. It was PERFECT. around 25 pilots, the best field I have ever flown off of (Thanks TORKS, and Kitman for the hospitality) and tons of flights and good times. The pictures are limited because I was having too much fun flying. Good to see Kitman, Papa Stek (RC4FLYING), JMiracle (and Wife),BUNKY (Chis Fry),John, Scott Hubbard (and son) and all the other guys. GOOD TIMES! Best save ever award goes to Chris Fry... Chris had his 35% Carden in an inverted Harrier about 25 - 30 feet off the deck, kind of descending to really bring the plane down when he had a flame out. I cringed thinking the plane was about to meet his maker... Chris somehow managed to right the plane, and flair it at the last possible second, the plane pancaked a bit.. but the only damage was a pulled gear plate. Chris was bummed, but considering the circumstances, he really pulled his skills to save that plane. To see the event in person it was truly a insane save. The Bunky Extra will fly again!

I may be down, but not out!!!!! Spent the past 7 hours digging GARBAGE out of the plane. I plan on having this thing ready to ROCK N ROLL by FRIDAY!!!!!!!!! I have the gear plate completely out of it, the gear plate mounts (1/2" sq. stock), right LG cheek. I have already opened up in 1 wing panel and squirted some Gorilla Glue in the hole. Based on popular decision that would be the best way to fix my wings where those DAMN STOOPID ASS wheel pants crunched the wing. I have no before pics, thank god, it is bad enough that I have to fix this junk pile. But I am taking pix as I repair, so you guys can see how I will GIT R DUN!!!!!!!!!!!All in all, it was a good time till I bounced the 35. I got to TEST FLY my Illusion bipe!!! All I gotta say is WHAT A ROCKET!!!!!!!!!!! It took a few minutes to get the ole 3W 80xi to fire up, but with a quick tweak of the low speed needle, we were off ROLLIN!!!!!!!! A little bit of rudder trim, some down elevator and some aileron trim, and we are flying pretty straight. KE passes cake walk!! Just a tad of rudder and some opposite aileron. Inverted flight requires some down elevator.Well, back to the dungeon, well, basement!! Getting ready to install the 1/2" sq stock for the LG plate. Gonna expoy and then SCREW IT!!! Once the 1/2" sq is installed, I'll epoxy the LG plate in and then call it a nite.

Not really a save, but just LUCKY as hell that I didn't destroy that AWARD WINNING plane!!! When I'm done with it, you will not be able to tell that there was any damage to it!!

And the last set of this crap for the nite................ Ok, so I fibbed a little. I'm ready to install the LG plate. But while I was down in the dungeon, I decided against the LG plate, but instead to do the other wing panel. I wonder if I can get my money back on that new PT Prop I just bought last week???? Or maybe even I can get my $$$ back on those mufflers I bought from Terry. They don't hold up to pancake style landings!!!!!!! HAHAHHAH!!!!

I totally learn something from you all the time, WHAT NOT TO DO. ![]() Just kidding. Also, looks like you are getting a better grip on these bigger planes. Hope you learned something from Bunky ? Bunky, Sorry to see that happen. I know we all felt bad for you. But the trooper you are, you have dug in and fixing that bird with no hesitation. hope to see you back in the air soon. I have mine on the bench right now also after a little problem yesterday. Darn micro burst. Scott took some AWESOME pics. Check those out, Guys.

No doubt Saturday was a blast...well worth the trip!! Getting a group of flying buddies together like that for a day of flyin and chattin is better than any big event IMO. Can't wait for the next one! ![]() It was sad to see Bunky's Extra all dinged up...but I'm even more disappointed that I was flying at the time and didn't get to see that save! From my point of view, all I heard was the Extra throttle up, flip around a bit....then silence followed by a sickening "THUD" almost directly across the runway from where I was standing. It could have been a LOT worse! |

I did learn something, Joe!!!!!! Not to let Sleep hold you planes! I still think he has the curse of death upon his brow...... We are cooking with gas on this thing. Gonna lay some 1/4" stock today before I go to work, and get the LG plate in!
