I have met 2 here in Lubbock.

One flew for years and would only fly 2 stroke engines as he could "feel" when the engine was running well. He wasn't able to get the hang of 4 strokes. He has since quit flying and gone to golfing last I knew, but he did have fun while the little club 30 miles from here was active.

The other gentleman I only met once. He had a Planes Plus 34% Extra. He and his wife were from Ohio and had just moved or perhaps were visiting (haven't seen them since)

Sorry, I don't have contact info for either though.

Ed

There are at least 3 if not more in my local club all relatively new pilots flying either their old trainers or four star 60's and so, and their lack of hearing does not seem to impede their progress at all.

This is an honest question. Is that a common term? It sounds rude to me. Just curious.

Term used by the deaf, for the deaf.... Or at least I'm 95% sure. I think

Welcome to FG Sokhapann, I'm sure there are a more than a few members here with various hearing conditions who will chime in. Enjoy the place!

Nobody in my club listens, does that count?

Also, I can't remember his name, but wasn't the guy who wrote the engine column in Model Aviation deaf?

There are two that regularly in my club "The Sooner Squadron" in Guthrie Oklahoma. Do you want their contact information? I will have to check with them. Andy

I have a couple of deaf friends that fly- one up in the Northwest. My father is also deaf and flew for about 10 years......

Interestingly enough, my mother is a doctor of audiology. She got interested in the subject because of my father's deafness and eventually got her doctorate. She now runs a hearing clinic.... She's had me in custom earplugs since I was kneehigh to a grasshopper, I guess a very good thing as I have perfect hearing 9father had his earliest losses from sound exposure while working as a hunting guide). I've also been trained to fit custom industrial/shooting style earplugs.

Welcome to the Giants.

Edit - just saw your post above... all the deaf flyers I know experienced their loss later in life so they all read lips rather than sign.
