Reporting LIVE! From the RBAR!

FlyingGiants reporting live from the press media center at the 2007 San Diego Redbull Air Races! The FG Crew arrived on location this morning, and I gotta tell ya, Redbull takes great care of the media! We have an exclusive location on the South pier for the best venue anywhere onsite for photos and videos!

The day started off with a Navy Seal demonstration of water rescue and drop off by military helicopters. The Coast Guard performed similar maneuvers followed by some excellent warbird fly-bys. Right now, we're waiting for the big show to begin!

We'll be posting photos directly after the first round of racing, and video if the internet connection here holds up. This thread will serve for all of Friday's coverage.

Don't forget to check out Thursday's racing videos located on the bottom of the homepage under Best of The Giants.

Max, Great pics.

I am lucky enough to live in San Diego and to have been at the RBAR today - North Embarcadero. Great views from that location, just even with the third pylon in the chicane and not more than 75 meters from it. Feels like those birds are going to go right overhead.

The weather was perfect from a spectator's point of view - crystal clear, 70-75F, with a 10-20 mph breeze to keep it cool. The wind was a big factor in the heats as it changed speed and direction from one pilot to the next.

Nothing like seeing the full scale version of your RC plane in action, up close, much closer than at most airshows. Seeing Peter Besenyei make a 9g turn with one wingtip 15 feet of the wavetops, is way more impressive than any maneuver I will ever do with an RC plane.

If you get a chance to go to one of these events, I highly recommend it. My wife even enjoyed it

We're going back again tomorrow for the rest of the races.

Here, the helicopter blew Jason's hat into the water and the recovery was unsuccessful.... you'll get to see how we cheered up Jason later with the Red Bull girls.
