It really sucks but it was just a matter of time before it happened. I feel bad that it was little Justin, that will make the comments and reactions even worse. The reality of it is accidents happen, I have seen so many close calls at one of my clubs that I resigned and want no part of the place. It could be a plane just as easy as a heli. This can be a dangerous hobby, we know it and accept it. It can happen to the best pilot on any day so I hope people will give the kid a break. I just can't believe some of the comments from heli guys, they say he isn't old enough to be flying at big events yet adults can touch blades on the ground inverted at big events in front of huge crowds and that's safe? What if a blade gets damaged and comes apart and the pilot loses control. I'm not bashing heli guys, I love to see a good heli demo, but I just think that there are many people out there who have already concluded that Justin made the mistake before learning the full details, details that we may never know. All we can do is be safe and hope that it never happens again.

Let face it. People are jelouse of the boys talent, yes talent. He flies better then most adults. Is it wrong to have a kid that is talented and parents that run with it? I don't know, ask Tiger Woods! The sad thing is we all have accidents and componet failures, but sometimes where lucky when and where they happen. I for one hope he flies again and the man that was hurt fully recovers.

I am wondering if the AMA will get involved due to pressure from their insurance carrier? (stipulations on demos, limitations etc.). The problem with this whole thing is his age and judgement ability. Regardless of what was really the fault (equipment failure, pilot error, etc) and regardless of his skills. I have watched the videos and there is no question the kid can fly extremely well. Justin's age and judgement are always going to be called into question. Now if this same situation happened with say QQ or Curtis Youngblood during a demo their skills and judgement would not be second guessed. The biggest thing I can see is the "judgement factor" (when to ditch it if you can to avoid the crowd) and when to try to save it. Don't get me wrong I am not saying that is what happened here, the accident may have been totally unavoidable and could have happened to anyone. The problem is that the split second judgement ability doesn't come until much later in life with frontal lobe developement. This is just my take on the whole sad situation. The good thing is no one was irreparably injured or worse. I too like the idea of netting and would also like to see the crowds backed up from the flight line further. Jeff |

Yeah, lets just hope that the guy that got hit understands about accidents. The horn setup at Triple Tree is great, it alerts everyone that there may be a problem so they can identify the problem and react. This may sound a little extreme but it could be done with little hand held horns that you can buy at the store. I think it would be a good idea for anyone having a big event with spectators. This is such a great, clean hobby for everyone regardless of age or gender. Like I said before all we can do is be safe and use good judgement, and if you see something that isn't safe speak up and help protect and preserve our hobby.
