If you haven't noticed, here at FlyingGiants, we're into our food. A quick gander around the forums will reveal about a 1000 posts related to smack talk about sandwiches, salami, BLT's, and who makes the most delectable consumable. Go figure. Well, as fate would have it, and in an effort to come up with the most off the wall event possible, our good friend SuperDave Anderson has decided to have a competition, for an amazingly tasty cause - introducing The FlyingGiants BLT Smackdown for The Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund!

Dave, a Tucson Shootout Competitor went beyond the call of duty a few weeks back and started the official fundraiser here on FlyingGiants, and to date, has raised... Get this - over $2000 in charitable donations for the cause!

So what's the competition you might ask? What started off as a Roast (which may still go off) has morphed into something... Well, a little more tasty. Well myself and Dave are going to have a BLT cookoff at some point during the Tucson Shootout, and our creations will be presented to a panel of judges who will decide the winner.

Well, that's not all. The loser will be forced to wear a t-shirt for one entire day during the event, that's, we'll... Gonna sting. Hint - it will be rainbow colored, and highly embarrassing. Associated vinyl graphics will be displayed on the loser's planes as well.

So folks, PULL OUT YOUR CREDIT CARDS, PAYPAL, OR CHECKS and help support this excellent cause! We're very proud of our community coming together to support those who protect our freedom.

Anyway, here's the main post from the other thread saying how it all works. We are raising mad bucks for this great cause and I encourage you guys to show some support. Anything is appreciated.

What started out as a small idea to get people to donate to a worthy cause in exchange for getting to take a crack at Mad Max at the Tucson Aerobatic Shootout has quickly turned into an all out fundraising effort. After I posted the idea that people could donate a dollar to take a “swipe” or “bust-on” Max during his roast at the TAS (dollar per insult or observation) I received several private messages and follow-on posts from FG brothers who could not make the Shootout but wanted to pitch-in. With the help of Craven, 50% Plane and Boulder (and others), I posted a poll and asked people to vote for a few nominated charities. In the end, 76 members voted and the winner was “The Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund.”

After talking with Max via phone, he agreed it was a good idea. So here’s how I have it set up…

Goal: To make a large, one-time donation to The Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund in the name of the Flying Giants Members, mid-October.

How it will work:

In addition to the proceeds from the Roast of Mad Max at the Tucson Aerobatic Shootout, we launch this donation campaign through the use of a special Paypal account specifically set up for this drive, and by members mailing checks or money orders (no cash please) directly to me at the address I will provide below ***MADE OUT TO THE CHILDREN OF FALLEN SOLDIERS RELIEF FUND***. October 15th will be the last day to donate/send in checks.

After all the checks and Paypal deposits are in, I will:

• Transfer the Paypal money to a bank account I have set up for this drive
• Deposit the cash raised at the Tucson Aerobatic Shootout into the same account
• Get a bank check made out to the charity, for the transferred and deposited amounts, minus any fees
• Combine this check with all the mailed in checks
• I send all the checks and money orders to The Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund via FedEx (signature required) along with a letter about who we are and a list of donors

Accountability:

First off, if you don’t feel comfortable donating to this online fundraiser, please don’t. For those that feel like it’s a good deal, here’s what I’ll do to make sure everything is in the open for all to see.

As checks or money orders come in, I will log them into an Excel Spreadsheet with name and amount donated. As Paypal donations come in, I will cut and paste the list of donors and amounts into another spreadsheet. Periodically I will post a running total of donations received. At the conclusion of this effort, I will post the letter to the charity and a list of all those who donated (if you wish to remain anonymous, please tell me).

Note: I will not post a list of donors and amounts on this site, only a running total. The list of donors and amounts are for my tracking only.

However, if someone donates $100.00 or more, they shall be hailed publicly in this thread!

Max I got to tell you, I would much rather eat the sandwich pictured above from SuperDave over yours. The bacon looks like its cooked much better. Btw, did you even cook your bacon or just stick it on there raw???? LOL

Okay, now that's just rude. Let me tell you something Mr. Norcal rudder basher, my bacon is hand selected, lean, and fried to perfection, and never see's a microwave. Dave's is nasty ass turkey bacon - there isn't even a place on a turkey that you can cut a strip of bacon from! Just because you can make something and call it bacon doesn't mean it's bacon. Dave, you're gonna look cute in the "I'm down with the brown" shirt.
